A Fly for the Dramatics// Anya and Holden
In retrospect, this wasn’t even on the scale of bad things. This was nothing. Right now, though, this was everything to Anya. This was the thing that was rocking Anya to the core. This was the end of the world.
After a heated phone call with her lawyer, her buyer, and her parents, she stormed out of her studio. She headed downstairs, finding Holden watching the game in TV room. Holden looked up when he saw her, noticing that she was upset. “What’s wrong, baby?” he asked, pausing the TV.
“I’m never selling one of my pieces again!” she yelled, stepping further into the room. She then began to recant everything that had happened. Holden to could only sit back and watch, trying to hold his laughter in. Even though he could only comprehend half of what she was talking, he knew the jist of what was going on.
Anya liked to be dramatic, Holden knew that better than anyone. She was a workaholic and a perfectionist, so she always liked to make mountains out of mole hills. He shook his head, laughing as she paced back and forth, ranting and rambling.
Anya stopped when she heard his laugh. What the hell was he laughing at? She was fuming. He couldn’t honestly think this was a laughing. “Glad you think it’s so funny, Holden!” she snapped before storming out of the room. She went back into her studio, slamming the door behind her.
Most guys would run after the girlfriends, but not Holden. It’s wasn’t because he didn’t care, or he didn’t want to deal with her, but he knew how this worked. She was projecting her anger on him, and he knew soon she would be okay again.
Like clockwork, soon Anya was back in the TV room. The minute she had slammed the door before, she regretted losing it on Holden. She did this all the time, and for some reason Holden just let her project her anger onto him. She felt horrible for doing it, but he just let it happen.
Anya took the seat next to Holden, snuggling into his side. Holden threw an arm around her, pulling her in and chuckling. “Are you done with the dramatics, my little thespian?” She looked up at him, pouting and nodding her head. “I’m sorry for freaking out.” Holden just pressed a kiss to her head before turning back to the game on TV.
Anya turned her head towards the TV, trying to watch the game. Just like Holden, Anya knew absolutely nothing about the things Holden liked. Sports and cop vocabulary and beer, it all went over her head. “Tell me what’s going on.” she said, wanting to get to know the things that made Holden happy.
Holden smiled, loving that she was interested in the things that he enjoyed. It meant a lot to him that she wanted to know more about what he liked. He began to explain the game to her, how the players played and what the lingo meant. At one point, she began to stop replying to him, and he looked down to find her fast asleep, her head laying on his chest. He let out a soft chuckle, kissing her hair before returning back to the game.
