I've been working with Parker for a few sessions. He is an incredible kid, who has had a tough life he is 15 years old and midrange on the autisim spectrum. His mother tried to drown him when he was very young. He's got great adoptive parents now. He's got a great sense of humor, his favorite joke is do you use seasoned wood? Do you put salt and pepper on it. Makes me laugh constantly. This week his cousins came to visit the shop I put them to work making hooks and he made a dinner bell he saw in the Backyard Blacksmith for his third project. He's got a lot of knowledge read a few smithing books and has watched a lot of videos getting the knowledge back out is a challenge but it's worth every second becuse he is enjoying it. This is what being an instructor means to me, giving everyone a chance especially those who wouldn't be able to do it otherwise. Giving back to the community is what gets me going. Being able to do what I love and show others how to do it too crests bonds and lessons to your students and keeps our craft alive.
