What happened with Hannibal????? Will this finally convince me to watch it.

WUH-HUH-HUH-HUH-HELLLLLLL (HANNIBAL SPOILERS COMIN’ UP),

Hannibal/Will has always been a very ~intense~ relationship from the off (and very shippable, if you like your pairings with a side of MANIPULATION and GASLIGHTING and CANNIBALISM), but at the end of s2 some of us were convinced it had become Canon Romantic (~acting~ on Will’s part to catch Hannibal in the act for the FBI, but still) for the following reasons: lots of touching and lingering glances, eating people together and looking like they wanted to fuck on the dinner table, making plans to run away together AND, THE CROWNING GLORY, when Hannibal realised Will was lying to him/working for the FBI he 1. gave Will the chance to run away with him anyway, and when Will turned that down he 2. laid waste to everyone they knew, 3. stabbed Will in the most erotic way possible, 4. slit their surrogate daughter’s throat to punish him and 5. cried. it was, if you ask me, ROMO AF.

so then season 3 rolled around, and apparently WE WERE ALL RIGHT about it being ROMO AF, because the romance just kept coming. Will told his friend/boss that he’d wanted to run away with Hannibal, Will’s hallucination of their surrogate daughter/subconscious was like “Why didn’t you run away with him???”, loads of people talked about Hannibal’s “love” and how damaging it was, Hannibal talked about “love” wrt Will, Hannibal’s psychiatrist Bedelia made lots of very catty comments to Will about how he was Hannibal’s bride/old flame and how ~passionate~ their relationship was etc. etc. etc., when Will finally found Hannibal after 8 months they just smiled at each other for 10 minutes in an art gallery talking about how they were conjoined and couldn’t survive separation, IT WAS ALL VERY GAY, culminating in Will telling Hannibal he wouldn’t turn him in/arrest him but he didn’t want to see him/think about him/miss him anymore and Hannibal should LEAVE and NEVER DARKEN WILL’S DOORSTEP AGAIN and do his MURDERS SOMEWHERE ELSE. (possibly one of the only 2 moments on this show that Hannibal has ever let his mask drop and looked genuinely vulnerable.)

blah blah blah long story shortish, Will was chatting with Bedelia the catty psychiatrist in the second-to-last episode of s3 and was like, “Is Hannibal in love with me?” and Bedelia responded with some sexy food puns and a “Yes.” and then she was like “BUT DO YOU ACHE FOR HIM?” (it’s a yes. yes is the answer. fucking yes mate.) so in the finale lots of Finale Things happened, it was all very nail-biting, Hannibal was sprung from custody by The Red Dragon (ORCHESTRATED BY WILL), he pulled up next to Will in a police car, shoved a dead body out of it and said, “Going my way?!” and it was all very rom-com, cut to them in a romantic getaway cliffside retreat drinking red wine and being candid and waiting for The Red Dragon, and, IN A NUTSHELL, Hannibal and Will murdered The Red Dragon together while Siouxsie Sioux’s “Love Crime” played over the top. it would take too long to explain Will’s character/s1 arc/~urges~ but trust me: THIS IS HUGE AND AMAZING IN EVERY WAY. (I feel like morally I should have some obligation to how everything’s turned out but LMAO, I DON’T.)

so afterwards Hannibal pulls Will to his feet, and they’re both covered in blood from multiple wounds (and Hannibal because he ripped The Red Dragon’s throat out w/ his teeth... nice), and they have a very brief conversation that won’t make any sense unless you’ve seen every episode of this show so I won’t get into it BUT IT’S A LOT, and Hannibal’s CLINGING to the front of Will’s shirt in a really cute lowkey way and they’re INCHES APART and STARING AT EACH OTHER’S MOUTHS and Will puts his hand on Hannibal’s shoulder and leans in and rests his head on Hannibal’s chest AND HANNIBAL’S FACE (VULNERABLE MOMENT #2) IS THE MOST INCREDIBLE THING, HE LOOKS LIKE HE’S JUST GOTTEN EVERYTHING HE’S EVER WANTED (WHICH HE LITERALLY HAS, HE LITERALLY SAYS IT), AND IT’S UNREAL. IT. IS. UNREAL.

and then Will wraps his arms around Hannibal and sends them over the cliff, but that’s whatever because they’re 100% still alive.

TL;DR THE CANNIBAL SHOW WENT FULL ROMO, WILL REALISED HANNIBAL WAS IN LOVE WITH HIM AND THEY ENDED UP KILLING A DUDE AND GOING ON THE RUN TOGETHER, THEIR LAST SCENE OF THE SEASON IS THEM SHARING THE MOST ROMANTIC EMBRACE MY TWO EYES HAVE EVER SEEN, IF WE GET A SEASON 4 IT’S GONNA BE HANNIBAL AND WILL EATING PEOPLE AND KICKING BACK IN SOUTH AMERICA. HALLELUJAH.
