A Bump On A Log
Anything Grows
Gone are the winter leaves Like the birds and the bees In the yard that we played for the summer Where we practiced our P’s On the scraps off the birch trees Never once thought the sun would sink under
The horizon in the distance We’d just put it on our list Of things meant to die when we’re older Like the dog down the street These sores on our feet But the night came too fast and we lost all track of the world
And who knows Why the light no longer glows And who knows Why anything grows
Who told the stars not to shine If they won’t be there all the time Leave the moon all alone it’s glory Hold us back in our prime Douse us in turpentine Peel away the dead skin for our stories
We’d ride our bikes straight down To where the road turns around That’s as far as your mom would let us go We’d chase a truck full of ice cream But the five dollars might seem A little too much, so we’ll turn around and go back home
And who knows Why the light no longer glows And who knows Why anything grows If the light no longer glows Who knows Why anything grows
