First, I want to wish you a belated happy birthday 😀.
For my question: How would the Nightmare King Grimm react to nightmares just being ridiculous/not making sense of the troupe?Similarly, for Hornets nightmares, does the nightmare King watch hers with a form of sympathy before taking said nightmares away so rest is possible so Grimm could also get sleep as well? (I apologize if my question doesn't make sense at all)
there's often a certain element of ridiculousness to many dreams and nightmares. the quote unquote dream logic that someone viewing objectively, like nightmare king grimm, might find funny or baffling. old as he is, he's not often bursting at the sides with laughter or being too shocked at the nightmares that come his way. even if troupe member 172 has an insane nightmare of clowns falling out clouds like raindrops and chasing her through a giant block of cheese.
nightmare is someone who cares about his troupe in a more conceptual or theoretical way. he's more likely to grow upset that the troupe as a whole is being treated poorly in the current area than if a random troupe member were to come to him crying about something. he's caring but in a weird, distant way that is likely due to his nature as something grand and divine. to follow that, he's pretty neutral but not unsympathetic when he's eating his follower's nightmares. it is merely one of his many duties as the beating heart of the troupe to leave their nights calm. if they're all having the same nightmare he'd most certainly be concerned but he's only going to tell grimm to do something about it and then return to his usual slumber.
grimm and hornet are both different in this scenario. grimm is not as thoroughly shielded from nightmares simply because he has the dream god's heart beating for him. it naturally leads to nightmares more often than not and as he is not the actual god of the troupe he can only suffer them until his patron notices and whisks it away like the rest of the troupe. grimm also can't keep such bad dreams away from hornet and once again must rely on nightmare's attention — but he is somewhat perturbed that nightmare notices hornet's dreams much quicker than he ever noticed any other bug's.
nightmare will eat grimm's bad dreams without much thought. he doesn't really want to know what's weighing on grimm since if it's anything related to their arrangement, there's absolutely nothing he can do for his vessel. he still cares, but he respects grimm's privacy and knows that very little can be changed to ease grimm's burdens.
that said, nightmare does almost wish he could let hornet's play out simply to better understand her. she's so... self assured and confident that he does want to watch every dream she has just to learn what her subconscious mind thinks of. what she's longing for, what she's afraid of, if she might be dreaming of him, etc etc. his desire for knowledge is outweighed by his desire for her to actually rest so he glances only as long as he can bear to before taking it away from her.
over the years, he learns her well enough like grimm that he can usually guess what their nightmares are about with just a look.
Have you played cards against humanity against Aspar before?
“We’ve spent a good number of hours engrossed in card games before, but not this one. I don’t think I’ve heard of it before. Is there a reason for the title?”
