Shadow Weaver: You can trust me
Catra: I don't even trust the way you said I could trust you
So I’m sure some of you noticed this before (I personally did a long time ago, but I’ve never seen it pointed out on here) but for those who didn’t, the Yotsuba arc has a scene that includes majorly funny subtext to me personally, which consists of Light’s ‘godhood’ being indirectly/unconsciously admitted by the Yotsuba members (who have never come into contact with Light personally, or even knew of his existence, and yet all died by his hand).
As you know, Light was the one who first discovered Yotsuba’s possible involvement with Kira. His research conducted with the help of L’s headquarters high-tech investigation system confirmed three suspicious cases of heart attack that could be tied to Kira in one way or the other (and the research was initially founded on murders from heart attack of those that aren’t criminals, that’s how those cases were found) and Yotsuba being the only company that benefited from those deaths as shown in the following panels, is what made Light conclude that Kira—the only unnatural power capable of giving those innocent people heart attacks—is supporting Yotsuba.
More research by Light has shown that even more cases of murder were beneficial to Yotsuba economically, but those three first suspicious cases shown in the graph were what first grabbed his attention. It is mentioned that those murders happened over a course of three months, which is generally very tight timing and would make it even harder for anyone to find a suspicious pattern there, not to mention that it demands very thorough investigation, since anyone looking into Kira activity for trails would naturally only be interested in criminals’ deaths and not at all entertain the thought that Kira would be involved in the business world, especially since criminal murders did not cease since Higuchi was using them as camouflage for such murder plans of personal interest (and I guess also for being threatened by Rem, I’d assume, who gave him the death note and let him use it as long as he carried out the role of Kira exactly as it was before), which is also something Light had concluded... but to keep it short, even though Higuchi was ‘stupid’ to an extent, he still made sure that nobody found out, which was the case for those 3+ months until this scene, though primarily because he didn’t make those decisions alone and discussed them with his fellow Yotsuba members instead of acting on his own (by gathering them to do those meetings in the first place, you could tell he needed professional advice/guidance on how to carry out his plans). The end result is the Yotsuba group being 100% confident that no one would expose them, as you already know, but this one line mentioned by an unknown Yotsuba member (though you are free to take a guess) is what comes off as funny.
“If a person zeroed in on us from those three deaths then they’d have to be a god.” That is exactly what Light has done. And guess what? He considers himself to be the ‘god’ of this world they live in. Was it mere coincidence that such explicit line was mentioned like this? Because I feel like Ohba did this on purpose and as someone who’s very much invested in Yotsuba arc, this sounds very very ironic to me. Also, this scene takes place after the scenes stated above, so this ‘god’ has already zeroed in on them and they’re not even aware of it at this point.
Who in the @#$%&@# world ate my food!?
i was rereading some portions of the central plains arc, i think, when teamleader mentioned about abilities vs singularities
he and cale were talking about it, and i think cale said something like abilities and singularities were different, because abilities don't go beyond human limits or something
but way after that, super rock mentions that instant isn't a power that humans can use.......🤔
sometimes i want to take a hiatus on here becuz my finals are on the 24th next month but then i remember how little happiness anything else brings me
