Dying usually meant exactly that – dying – so the fact that Bonnie could still feel the extremities of her body tingling meant that something was wrong. Or maybe this was dying and she just had a different experience this time. The tips of her fingers, ears, nose and toes burned with a strange yet familiar sensation. Her legs and arms felt heavy and so did her eyelids. She tried to peel her eyes open but that was a task that was proving to be more difficult than she thought.
Another thing she found very difficult was breathing, her chest for some reason felt like it was made of concrete instead of the soft but durable tissue surrounding her organs. Her attempts at inhaling and opening her chest cavities were as shallow as her fragile breaths. Still, Bonnie tried and tried some more until she was satisfied with the amount of oxygen she was able to get inside.
For some reason though, she picked up on a scent. Honey, lavender and... grapefruit. The smell was intense but nice, it reminded her of home. She took in the scent and let herself be travel through her memories until she found he way to the memories of her Grams. The young girl had a small smile on her face as she took in the details of Sheila's curly hair and soft skin. That smile faded as a strong feeling erupted through her. Her chest became overwhelmed with homesickness, guilt and sadness all rolled into one.
Her emotions bubbled out of her as she tried to hold it together but for some reason she couldn't. She thought she would find peace; Grams had assured her of that. And that's when it hit her, maybe this was what she had meant with that cryptic message. This was what Sheila had made her sacrifice for, Bonnie just had to open her eyes.
She gave it another go and tried to face whatever place she was in but it was like her body was refusing to let her wake up. She tried again with all her will and might; if this is what she had to do to finally be with Grams and her dad again, then she would take it. She had been through worse and this was what she deserved, to be reunited with her family and get that peace she wished for so many times.
Bonnie took command of her senses; she could feel the magic deep inside her but still miles away. That didn't stop her though, she grasped at her hope and the love she felt for those two people and got her eyes open. She did not expect blue orbs staring back at her with such intensity that if she weren't laying down, it would make her go into that position.
