the concept of wanting to write and actually lock in but school is standing in the way
and even if i write a bit here and there, i am barely functioning lately, my anxiety is so high, that i wouldn't even be able to get one chapter done
i did not know subscriptions were so popular for ao3 works until now. hell, i thought we were all bookmarking instead ! to be fair, subscriptions are probably the better way to go for ongoing fics, so i guess i shouldn’t be shocked. the things we learn !
So I posted a fic a couple days ago, and it's only gotten like 4 kudos. And that's not bad, but I normally get a much bigger initial influx on my fics, and I thought this one was pretty good. I really like it. I also know that the fandom is pretty active.
So I was a bit disappointed by only 4 kudos and a handful of hits.
So tonight I decided to go have a look. Maybe the ship just isnt performing well at the minute? Maybe my fic premise requires too much suspension of disbelief? (I mean sure, the same fandom that has men lactating for no apparent reason doesn't seem the type to draw the line at medical bureaucracy inaccuracies but stranger things have happened I guess)
So I clicked into the tag and couldn't see my fic. I scrolled a bit and couldn't see it so I narrowed the search. Completed, in English. And I still couldn't see it? And I was so confused because I was seeing works I knew had been posted before mine.
Which is when, upon finally finding my fic I realised it had been backdated to nearly a month ago.
Ive never drafted a fic before. And this one sat in my ao3 drafts for nearly the full month. And apparently, if you have a fic in your drafts, it backdates to when you put it in your drafts.
I did not know this.
So, now that I've changed the date to 2 days ago when I actually posted the thing, it's right back near the top of the tag. Hopefully, this means people will actually see it.
I mean, who knows, maybe it still won't get any kudos because people really do draw the line at medical bureaucracy inaccuracies, maybe it's just kind of shit. But at least it'll be shit that people have actually come across
