"I needed someone more than ever, and everyone just walked away."

Seijuurou let out the breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding, and it felt like the hardest thing he had done in a long time. As tired eyes shifted from the phone in his hand, he braced himself for the expression on Daiki’s face, although unsurprised to find the other’s back to him. Seijuurou stood then, finding it more fitting for this conversation to take place if they were standing on equal grounds, and he slipped his phone into his pocket. The warm, summer night air shifted only slightly and provided little ease in the face of the heavy sentence his former teammate had let out. Seijuurou half wondered if he had meant it to stay locked within the deepest parts of his heart and it’s escape was unexpected even for the tanned male. However, when he stepped forward to stand beside Daiki, he was quick to notice the hurt and distrust in his eyes, even if the stoic expression on his face tried hard to mask his negativity.

“Nothing I say will change my past mistakes,” Seijuurou began quietly, “but please allow me to apologize for what happened in my absence, Daiki. I am willing to fully shoulder the blame for everyone’s neglect.”

Clearing his throat, Seijuurou steeled himself for what was to come. He was a fool to have thought they could continue to live under this false pretense of peace. Simply throwing a towel over a spill does not mean it is no longer there, just as glue does not fully fix a cracked piece of china. The mark will still always be there: the point of fracture, always a spot of weakness in its structure.

“It was my responsibility to lead our team to new heights. And for a while, it worked... but just when you needed someone to lean on, I was unable to be there. Words cannot begin to express just how... incredibly apologetic I am.”

Seijuurou shook his head, voice somber as he stepped in front of the other, one hand raising to settle on the taller male’s shoulder. He closed his eyes thoughtfully, before stepping forward to draw Daiki into a sort-of awkward embrace. Regardless of how odd it was to be hugging the much taller and broader ace, Seijuurou still stood by his decision, silently ignoring the fact that he had to lean forward onto his toes just to pull off such a feat.

He pulled back after a moment, a small smile gracing his features as he stared directly up at the other, “it doesn’t change anything that happened in the past, but please know if you need anything I will be happy to listen. I may no longer be your captain or your teammate, but if there is a chance for us to become friends, I would... greatly welcome that.”
