What abt Levi with squad leader reader and it’s night and they spend the night talking to eachother on the roof of the survey corps?
YES i’ve been wanting to write something like this tysm! (also sorry this took 936264827372 years) <3
starry night || levi || oneshot
after the sun had set and when the moon and stars reveal themselves most traumas were brought back to any and every soldiers’ mind. the horrendous memories often return as nightmares, robbing any sane person of sleep. naturally, deciding to avoid this as long as possible you once again find yourself on the roof of the barracks; the crisp night air brings a chill to you as it brushes up your arms, down your neck and to your back but you ignore it.
the second of peace you feel doesn’t last long as a set of footsteps approach you. opening an eye, you were a little surprised to see levi standing there, peering down at you.
you smirk before breaking the silence, “if you’re here to tell me my plan went to shit today, i already know.”
he doesn’t respond, but from the corner of your eye you catch him clenching his jaw. before glancing back up at him, you pat the empty spot next to you, “you can stay and get comfy if you want.” once again, he says nothing but silently joins you on the floor.
no words are shared as the two of you sit in a comfortable silence, both admiring the sky before you. the silence is broken when levi sighs; turning to face you you already know what he’s going to say.
“you should get some rest. we’re going back outside the walls tomorrow and you’ll need your strength.” you sigh in response before turning away from him, looking back up to the star-filled sky.
“i could say the same to you captain.”
he chuckles at your snarky response, “i’m not your captain anymore brat, you’re all grown up and you’ve even got your own squad now.”
an immediate frown finds your face; “yea, but after today i’m thinking i’d rather not be a captain at all. it’s pretty clear im not a great leader. i led so many people to their deaths today.” just the reminder has you wincing.
he doesn’t respond but just shakes his head in disagreement. there’s another moment of silence, but this one isn’t comfortable, it’s awkward and you can feel the tension in the air.
“being a captain won’t always be a positive thing, it comes with lots of responsibility and even more loss, but you have to be strong enough to deal with it.”
his speech does little to cheer you up, but you’re a bit glad to have his company. the thought of him just being up on the roof with you brings a slight smile to your face, which he notices.
“now that you don’t feel like shit anymore let’s go back inside, it’s cold out here.” you don’t make a move to follow him, you just look back up to the star-lit sky; “i think i’ll stay out here a little longer.”
he pauses, removes his cloak and crouches down beside you, gently placing it around you and covering your shoulders. his warm breath hits your neck and you don’t miss how he once again clenches his jaw. he briefly looks you in the eyes and you swear you see a slight blush but he stands too fast for you to confirm it.
“don’t stay out here too long.” he calls, back faced toward you as he climbs back down the building.
he definitely wasn’t blushing
regardless, you clench the cloth and smile down at it.
i guess he was able to cheer me up after all.
