Attack on Titan was never about fighting titans
Chapter 134 is evidence of this.
It is about hope. This panel is powerful. A mother’s ultimate sacrifice. All these people- surrounded by their own demise- reaching for the baby. For the future. Doing what they can to try and preserve. THAT is what this story is about. The stories of regular people, faced with cruelty, hoping one day humanity will not have to live in fear of their lives.
Again, even at the end, facing the end of the world (and the man who is bringing it about), Armin is still holding on to that shred of hope that Eren can be stopped.
Until the bitter end.
There is admission of guilt, seeing the error of their ways. Too little, too late.
And yet, they fought Eren, gave it everything they had, in hopes of saving any lives.
I don’t think the theme of “having hope” was ever hidden, or anything but obvious, but this chapter really drove home the point that without some driving force / hope for a better future, there would be no point in ever engaging with the Titans in the first place. Whether it be seeing the sea, freedom, knowledge, or exploring the outside world: everyone hoped for something. We know the final panel has a father with a baby, which tells us that hope for a better (peaceful) future will live on.
Other thoughts on this chap: The Beast Titan
Specifically: is that actually Zeke? Or does Eren have some sort of power now to make Titans out of his own form?? Look: the beast Titan was formed out of Eren, and is at all times that we see him, connected still, like a weird puppet:
Perhaps Zeke, but controlled by Eren? Not sure, but very interested in seeing how that goes. Freaky nonetheless.
I also want to note how (morbidly) beautiful the panels throughout this chapter were. I read it with a friend, and he kept noting how incredibly drawn everything was. Visually stunning, can’t wait to see it animated.
What a spread.
These last few chapters will be exciting and heartbreaking and thrilling and emotional. I can’t wait (yet I don’t want it to end). What are your thoughts/predictions? I’d love to hear!
Lastly- I see you bb. Hang in there. Kick some monkey ass & come back home safe to me. I love you, eight fingers and all🥺❤️
good morning have you cried because of spoilers yet?
So the beast titan appearing again means that we're getting the other titans that eren got too meaning this fight is gonna be long until falco and gabi arrive right? either that or Isayama is gonna drop another plot twist
I REALLY like ch134. I’ll make a full post likely tomorrow to allow people time to read. If you’re behind on the manga, now is definitely time to catch up- this chapter especially is important. Until then, obligatory “look at this man” panel:
Seriously tho- a lot of important stuff in this one. Also.... Levi vs. beast Titan round 2 is coming!!! Please live 🥺
Initial thoughts on the spoilers for this chap: oh my god it’s actually almost over. It’s really ending. Our story is reaching its end. What do I do with my life when AoT is done?
(((Existential dread setting in)))
As I said, making Eren the villain in the last arc is such a good shit move 😘👌🏼💕
