You know what? I'm gonna send that dream to you as a prompt now. Ren's Dark!Lee Dream.
you monster.
“Lee!” There wassomething prophetic and familiar about the view before him, the long bridgehanging over the thermal core of the planet, but Ren couldn’t dwell on that. Hecouldn’t dwell on the last time he’d been in a situation like this only—the lasttime he had been standing on the opposite side. And… Han Solo had been the onemaking his way across the bridge.
He was older now, the years passing over his body and made obvious bythe gray in his hair and the lines in his face. Older, and perhaps wiser, butRen couldn’t help but notice the irony of this situation. His hand brushed thehilt of his own lightsaber as he took a step forward, followed by another, untilhe was less than five feet away, staring at the figure in black. There was nomask this time—thank goodness—but perhaps that wasn’t for the best; Ren couldsee the yellow of his son’s irises, perverted from the warm shade of brown theboy had grown up with.
“Kylo Ren.” Lee spat, red blade humming in the space between them. “Youshouldn’t be here old man.”
“Neither should you, Lee.” Ren wasn’t afraid of the lightsaber, wasn’tafraid of the fact that he was likely going to die, because he knew it wouldbring his son home. He was going to make the same sacrifice that his father hadmade years ago, and it wasn’t death that frightened him.
It was the pain that his death would leave behind, the battle of Lightagainst Dark, it would tear Lee apart. But his son would be able to come backfrom this, Ren had to believe that.
“And where do you think it is I belong?” The young man demanded. “Inthat house? On Myrkr? Or at your silly little Academy with the other Jedi? Snivelingand groveling for scraps of power?”
“The Dark Side is a slippery slope, Lee. You don’t want topay the price it requires.” Ren protested, earning a snarl from his son.
“The price it requires?” The Force pushed back at Ren, avortex of furious energy that swirled around his son. “You want to talk to meabout price? What good is the Lightside then? What good is it when it couldn’t save them? It couldn’t save her andit can’t save—no, old man. The Dark side is the only chance I’ve got.”
Lee took a threatening step, raising his saber. “Step back or I willkill you.”
“Then you’ll have to kill me.” Ren told him sincerely, tossing hisweapon over the side. “Because I’m not going anywhere. I’m not leaving thisplace without my son.”
Ren felt… he felt no fear at that moment. No fear of death, no fearthat his son was irredeemable. In fact, he felt—a hand ghosted over hisshoulder, strong and assuring just like when he’d been a child. Another, smaller hand took his own, the scent of cinnamon and flowers of his mother’sperfume and knew that this might be the end of him, but he wasn’t alone. And hewould do whatever it took to bring his son home.
“So be it.”
