TW DEATH MENTION CW DEATH MENTION
Okay now that I have the Legal Disclaimer posted, let me tell you an ugly ass story. It begins on 25 June 2021. This is the email chain from 29 June 2021, and then my follow up. ME: Good afternoon Mr. Apartment Manager, Prior to the heatwave there was an unpleasant smell wafting in the vent in my closet. Now, the last couple days the smell has gotten worse. It seems to be concentrated in the east side stairwell. I am concerned as it is too similar to the smell of the deceased person a friend and I found. Thank you kindly, Apt Renter MANAGER: We are aware of the smell, and it not being the first time this specific smell has manifested during heat, it is likely not someone who has passed.
ME: I'm hoping it's just something spilled. Dead bodies are just annoying, there's so much paperwork...
MANAGER: I suspect it’s something that got into the ceiling at some point in the past. It’s not coming from any one unit so hard to track down. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now let me tell you something Dear Readers, five years ago I found an actual dead person. There is absolutely no way in hell you well E V A R forget that smell. Dead humans smell like nothing else in this world. I have moved my fair share of dead animals; deer, skunks, cats, dogs, possums, raccoons... they are not the same. No, not even dead pigs smell like that.
Apt Manager Guy having established in writing that, there is no dead body and this is not the first time that specific smell has manifested during heat, he is an ignorant lazy asshole.
So when I came home on 1 July 2021, there was lo and behold Seattle Police and the King County Coroner's van.
My upstairs neighbor died just before Seattle hit the 100+ weather. He was dead for almost two weeks. HOW THE ACTUAL FUCK DO YOU IGNORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT SMELLS AND DEAD BODIES??!!
The other residents I've spoken with received similar responses from the Apt Manager. (One was apparently threatened with eviction proceedings if they didn't stop complaining about the smell, but I'll take a grain of salt with that.)
