Cont. from x
The marble city glittered like a diamond under the high vernal sun; it was a wondrous sight to see, robbing the wayfarer’s breath as it unfolded in all its splendour on the seven hills of Rome, the largest metropolis of its time, mother of the greatest Empire the world had seen.
As he regarded it from his lavish domus on the Palatine Hill, Romulus was certain it would endure through time, and that she would be eternal. His legacy, one he had built from nothing, from humble shepherds to grandiose dynasties and emperors. But his mood was not a pleasant one. A glowering frown had nestled on is brow, and his lips were pursed tightly, teeth clenching, his eyes darkened to an unforgiving shade of brown. When it struck, he was not to be reasoned with. Another rebellion in Germania Inferior. It was the year that would go down in history as the Year of the Four Emperors, that would eventually culminate with the rise of Vespasian. Despite the peaceful exterior, Rome was roiling with corruption and civil war, and the military was preoccupied with rebellions, hierarchical restructuring and a major conflict in Judaea. Civilis, an auxiliary officer of the Imperial Army stationed near the Rhine, had taken advantage of the confusion to stoke the fires of rebellion amongst the Batavi, and soon Romulus was confronted with the added vexation of 2 vanquished legions and another Germanic uprising to quash. How troublesome those Germanic tribes could be. Unsurprisingly, but he never had a moment of peace - and to add insult to injury, their venerable father was just lounging in a near by room, enjoying Rome’s luxuries and lifestyles while his children gnawed on the hand that (admittedly, for a price) fed them! It was the last straw. When Romulus was truly vexed, he went quiet. Deathly quiet. He stalked his prey with uncanny stealth. He only exhaled a breath when he felt his large fingers successfully coil around and dig into the nape of Odalric’s neck, straight through those blond tresses. In a different setting, he would have stroked him playfully, to tickle him and cause a reaction. But now he needed a release - a scapegoat of sorts; his blood was rushing in torrents in his veins, and his chest was a storm of thunder. He would sate his anger with blood. As his Germanic prize lazily offered less of a threat and more of a reflex in response, Romulus gave the pale neck a powerful squeeze to indicate that he was not joking; if his legions had failed to do so in the Rhine, then he would subdue him, by all available means. “Germania.” he rumbled dangerously, lips grazing the other’s ear as he shifted his weight onto the triclinium, all but pressing his large chest against the muscular tribesman’s back; “I am having a very bad day while you sit here idle, and play with your toys.” there was venom laced with heat in his tone, and he all but growled the last word. His irritation and the other’s rising pulse beneath his fingertips were only stirring the fire building in his loins. “What are we going to do about it, hm?”

It seemed like a nice, typical Sunday at first. Lily was relaxed in her apartment, lying on her couch with her eyes closed. One cat was on her stomach, and the two dogs were curled up by her on the floor. How long had it been since she was last able to take an afternoon nap? Too long was the answer. Alas, it seemed fate had decided that it would be longer still, as she was abruptly awoken by the sound of someone knocking rather hardly on the door. The dogs woofed and started barking as she sighed and sat up. The black cat was forced to jump to the ground, and he glared at her for disturbing him from his nice, warm spot.
“Don’t blame me,” she said to him. “Blame whoever’s pounding on my door in the middle of a Sunday of all days.” She walked up to her door and opened it, frowning at the tall man in front of her. For a brief second, she had thought that maybe Ludwig had put on a long wig. But then she realized that was absurd, as the man before her had better muscle tones and lacked a beer belly. “Yes? Can I help you?”
