Garroth was relaxing on the couch in his home. Laurance was away on a job interview, and Zane was still asleep downstairs. He took a sip of his coffee while he mindlessly scrolled through TV channels, trying to find something to watch. But he was soon startled out of his peacefulness when a kock rang throughout the front room. Garroth paused the TV, setting down his mug on the coffee table in front of him as he got up to answer the door. He glanced at the clock; it was nine thirty in the morning… Who is here this early?
Garroth unlocked the door and opened it, squinting slightly against the morning sun. Vlyad stood there, grinning brightly.
“Surprise, big brother!” he exclaimed, holding up a small duffel bag and a box of pastries.
Garroth blinked, staring at his brother in shock. He was stunned for a second, then broke into a bright smile. “Vylad?! What the— how long have you been back!?”
“Got in late last night. I didn’t want to wake anyone, so I stayed at an inn. Figured I’d come see you first thing,” Vylad spoke, stepping inside with his blonde-haired brother.
“I can’t believe you’re home,” Garroth muttered, still shaking his head in disbelief as he pulled his younger brother into a quick, tight hug. “You should’ve called!”
“And miss the look on your face?” Vylad teased, stepping into the living room and setting the pastries down on the coffee table. “Worth it.”
Garroth rolled his eyes but couldn’t hide his cheerful smile. “Zane’s still asleep. Laurance is out for a job interview. You just missed him.”
Vylad raised an eyebrow. “Zane still sleeps until noon, doesn’t he?”
“Yep.”
“Well, we’re waking him up.” Vlyad laughed as he practically skipped to the stair well.
“Irene, he’s going to murder you,” Garroth chuckled, following Vlyad to the stairs.
“Wouldn’t be a proper Ro’Meave brother reunion if someone didn’t threaten bodily harm before breakfast,” Vylad laughed, clapping his hands together. “Now come on, we’ve got a day to plan.”
Garroth laughed, following Vylad as he headed toward the basement stairs. The basement was dark as ever. Vylad flicked on the light and grinned wickedly. “Zaaaaaane~,” he sang. “Guess who’s back?”
A groan echoed from the dark-haired brother as he covered his eyes from the bright light that assaulted his eyes. “If it’s a debt collector, I’m legally dead.”
Vylad snorted. “Close. It’s your favorite brother.”
“Garroth, why are you enabling this?” Zane huffed.
“Because I missed him too, Zane.” Garroth pointed out with a low chuckle.
Another groan. “I hate all of you.”
Garroth looked over at Vylad with a smirk. “Yep. He missed you.”

After Zane was successfully bribed out of his bed with a raspberry danish and coffee, the three of them gathered around the kitchen island. The tension slowly dissolved into laughter and small talk. It had been months since they’d all been together like this.
“Alright,” Vylad chirped, clapping his hands after finishing his second croissant. “We’re all here. Let’s go do something!”
“Like what?” Zane mumbled, sipping his coffee. “You dragged me from my bed with no plan?”
“I was hoping my radiant personality would carry the day,” Vylad teaed.
“It won’t,” Zane deadpanned.
“Come on,” Garroth interjected with a chuckle. “Let’s just go out. It’s a nice day. We could hit the market, maybe walk by the docks?”
“Ugh. Sunshine,” Zane muttered as he finished his coffee, but he didn’t argue further.

The brothers made their way through the bustling town square, weaving between stalls filled with bright fabrics, sizzling street food, and the smell of fresh bread. The sun was bright and it’s warmth spread over the three. Garroth waved to familiar faces, Vylad chatted up every vendor like he knew them personally, and Zane stayed half a step behind, muttering complaints of the warmth under his breath.
“This is chaotic,” Zane said, squinting at a child nearly running into him with a sticky caramel apple.
“This is fun,” Vylad corrected, holding up a silly wide-brimmed straw hat he’d found at a booth. “Think I could pull this off?”
Garroth laughed. “Not unless you’re also selling turnips.”
“Rude. I’d be a very charming turnip farmer.”
After grabbing lunch from a food stall (Vylad insisted they each try something new, and Zane begrudgingly admitted the spicy fried rice cakes wasn’t terrible), they wandered down toward the docks.
The atmosphere felt familiar. The salty sea airbringing back memories of being there with their mother on sunny summer days. The days that held no worries, only ice cream and salty air.
They sat together on the edge of the pier, legs dangling over the water.
Garroth leaned back on his palms, letting the sun hit his face, his golden hair seemingly glowing in the sunlight. “Feels like we’re kids again.”
“Except vlyad isnt getting chased by a goose for taking its bread” Zane muttered with a slight amused tone.
“Hey! It took my sandwich!” Vlyad laughed.
As the laughter died down a comftorable silence fell between them for a moment.
Vylad glanced over at his brothers. “I’ve missed this. Iv’e missed you guys.” His voice was low and gentle as he spoke.
Garroth gave him a small smile. “We’ve missed you too baby brother.”
Zane didn’t say anything, but he shifted just enough so his shoulder brushed up against Vylad’s. A movement, while small, spoke enough words between the brothers.
