Happy birthday to you (birthday drabble for aphoenixwithin)
Enigma wrapped Jean's present, a small locket, with care. It wasn't anything fancy or super spectacular but it just didn't feel proper to make it fancy. It was simple but still beautiful. On one side of the locket was a picture of her and Scott having a genuinely good time, on the other was a picture of Charles and Enigma. She hoped it wasn't the wrong move but she'd sort of adopted the X-men team. They were like her children but she knew at least a few of them still had families of their own and she wouldn't interfere with that.
Enigma ended up missing out on the party, primarily due to her own nervousness. It was her first year actually teaching and she was sure the students were petrified of her. She didn't want to ruin anyone's day by making everyone nervous.
Sure that everyone had gone back to their rooms Enigma went to give Jean her gift.
"Jean?" Enigma called gently rapping on the door.
"Coming!" Jean called opening the door for her. "Mrs. Enigma. H-hi."
She blinked owlishly not used to seeing her teacher outside of class.
"I just wanted to give you this," Enigma said handing her student the small box. "Happy birthday Jean."
She took the box eying her teacher suspiciously. Her look quickly changed to surprise when she saw the locket. She gingerly took it out and opened it smiling when she saw the photos.
"It's beautiful. Thank you so much!" Jean said hugging Enigma.
Though surprised by the display of affection Enigma gladly returned it. At least one of her students didn't find her to be terrifying.
"You're welcome," she murmured hugging her back. "I'm glad you like it."
"Could you maybe join us next year? Everyone was wondering where you were and we actually got kinda worried." Enigma had become kind of a surrogate mom for several of the team members and not having her there just kind of made it feel like something was missing.
"I'd be honored to."

So I can unfurl the pretty flames that have my arms Which I will raise up to the sky with a twisted smile And I will sing ‘Glory Be’ and inside, whisper ‘help me please’ and shout out ‘Love, love, love’ -----------For eternity
❝I know you did it, Jean. Confess now and make it easier for all of us.❞
Different (Didge and Jean drabble)
Didge hated April Fools. It was the day of screamers, people jumping out of nowhere and just general unpleasantness for her. She liked the Rick Rolling, the silliness from companies like Google, basically anything harmless. No one got hurt and it made people chuckle.
To defend herself against the potential onslaught of not so funness she holed herself up in the bat-cave, and had her ipod going while leveling her heroes, while also saving the world through the magic of puzzles. She was really lucky she could multi-task. She had a feeling the Professor wouldn't be too happy if she didn't keep an eye on the security cameras and work on the bugs in the system.
"Didge!" someone called from the other side of the door.
Nope, nope, nope, and uh nope.
"Sorry I'm not answering until April 2nd! Please leave a message on the door or shoot me an email!" she called back. She was not opening that door. Not no way, not no how!
"Diidge."
Well poop. With a heavy sigh she got out of her comfy chair and cautiously made her way to the door. She opened the door just enough to see who it was. Jean? Oh boy. Not good.
"How may I help you?" she asked straightening up immediately opening the door for her. "Careful the stacks are multiplying."
She nodded closing the door behind her.
"You're coming outside with me." There was no room for argument, no way for Didge to wheedle herself out of it. She was coming outside like it or not. Mainly not.
"But-but-"
"But nothing. I promise you won't fall victim to a prank," Jean said holding up her hand to still any further argument. "You need to get more air that is not recycled through our air conditioning."
"Yes ma'am," she murmured hanging her head in defeat.
"It'll only be for a half hour and I'll be there with you." By a complete accident she'd learned of the girl's borderline agoraphobia. Given what Artemis had told her about Didge's past it wasn't that surprising to be honest. Her place was safe, but she couldn't stay there forever. It wasn't healthy. "I promise."
Didge trusted promises. Even when it likely wasn't a good idea. This was a good idea though. She desperately wanted to be like the others. She was different. And even among mutants different wasn't always good.
"Different can be good or bad. It makes the world an interesting place to live and gives us a chance to learn from others. But it also can bring out the worst in people. Be patient Didge. You won't be like this forever."
"Thanks," Didge murmured. She meant it. Sometimes things just got weird in her head and just needed someone to help unweird it.

How is it, that no matter what I'm doing on the computer, even frantically finishing up an essay or handing in application requirements, I ALWAYS END UP ON TUMBLR?
