"They are," Paris agreed, because Hektor wasn't wrong.

Glancing up sidelong at his brother, Paris cocked his head, keeping half an eye on the courtyard and the men sparring down there. Six months and counting since he and Helen had come back to Sparta, and no ships on the horizon. Not even an envoy come to them, since an army, if that was happening and Paris had doubts, would certainly take longer to assemble.

So why Hektor thought he needed to get more weapons' practice in, Paris didn't know. He neither wanted nor needed it.

"But both want and need are great, soul-shaking forces as well, that take a man by the throat and pull them where they may, whether it's from a desire for or against something."

Completely side-stepping the previous topic - at least for the moment - in the hope of similarly distracting the lecture he could hear weighing those words down, Paris arched his brows in inquiry.

"Surely you've experienced something like that in your life, brother?"

Crete was not a place that she'd ever dreamt of returning to. Truly, the bad memories very much overpowered the good and she had been glad to be rid of it even when stranded on Naxos.

The one shining beacon of good on it were the few family members she had once been close to. The few that knew of her transition into godhood. One of them her dear nephew, who she ran across the beach now to tug into a tight, squeezing embrace.

"Ido!"

She hoped to be forgiven for the theatrics, but a LOT had happened since last they'd spent time together.

Where once her hair was covered in a veil, it now flowed free in its dark curls - tamed only by the ivy that was braided into it. Her eyes were now ringed with gold, skin lightly shimmering in the sun. Though in this in-between form she had kept her same height, and swore that Idomeneus had again grown.

"It is so good to see you! My goodness you're so...different! But not at the same time!" She smiles, stepping back after a moment to give him space.

"How have you been?"

"I would never say stupid." the deep voice of the ocean spoke. Stupid was a word he had disregarded in his early life - when raising his siblings in a proper manner. Stupid was not a right way to phrase it. It was an insult. Meant to belittle. Actions were never stupid. Perhaps unhandy, yes. But never stupid. No one was stupid; it was all a simple learning curve. It was a philosophy he had also applied in raising his many children. None of which should feel stupid in any sense by their father's hand.

"You can only grow from this Hektor. Learn. Be better. Expand."

"I'd hate to see what a big misunderstanding looked like," Nico mutters, glanced around the relative carnage scattered around them. Whatever monsters were nearby are already fading to dust, such that Nico can't really tell how many of them there are anymore. From one of the large, curled tusks left behind, he has a hunch it was a wild boar, but from the size of it, he wouldn't be surprised if it was of the more monstrous variety.

And again, not little.

"So, what happened?" he asked after a beat, eyes catching the form of a rather pleased rooster strutting in the background. Does the guy have a rooster?

Kassandra wiped at the blood that had started to pool in her nostrils. The acrid smell of the battlefield, of death and copper-scented blood caused her nose to crinkle once it was clear enough. A few soldiers thought they had gotten her good, but the wounds were nothing, already starting to knit from under her armor. The Gods would not see her die this day, nor would they see her secrets revealed. Her hair braided tight and tucked under her helmet, she turned to the man, red still smearing her face as she spat blood into the sand next to her feet.

"It will take more than a few hoplites to put me in the ground."

5. A firm kiss

Some days were harder to watch than others. Some days of this war felt like they would never end, like every second Hektor was inching closer and closer to his death. In a way, he was, but he wouldn't die today, even though every blade that even came close to Hektor made Apollo flinch. He worries about losing him prematurely, worries that he won't ever get to tell him how he loves him one more time before he goes down to Hades.

It's silly, maybe, and he knows it. Even still, when Hektor, beautiful, illustrious Hektor comes close to greet him, Apollo grabs him by the shoulders and slams their lips together, something desperate and greedy in the moment. It says: I love you so much. It says: please, don't ever leave before I can tell you how I feel again.

He pulls away after a moment, grinning up at him. "Welcome back...you came close a few times today," he mumbles, resting his hands on his chest. "That's all."
