I have discovered a procedure known as apicoectomy. In recent years it has been performed on some chinchillas, whilst previously it used to only be practiced in rabbits. There are only one or two surgeons in the country who perform it and I have noted their details to take to Dumpling's follow-up in two weeks time. The procedure is - as with all surgery - temporarily painful and requires post-operative care. Afterwards, the roots have been killed so the teeth will no longer grow. He will live a full, happy and pain-free life - the one he deserves. It's just such a shame that there are so few practitioners of the procedure. I believe it will be expensive but this is the smallest milestone - I'll sell my car if needs be. I'd sell every worldly possession I have. I will do anything to preserve his lifespan - he is such a sweet little character and doesn't deserve his life cut short. Fingers crossed the vet will tell me his uppers aren't in his eyesockets as this would make it truly inoperable and untreatable. He's still eating and playing and talking to me so I can't see how this would be. I have read a few stories but if any Tumblrers have experience with this procedure please please PLEASE get in contact.
