Staples Connection
In Staples' essay he comes to the realization that to others he was intimidating and to some down right scary. He came to the conclusion that he knew that he could alter public space. In Mary Shelley's quote she is referring to the same kind of feelings. She identifies the persona other people gave her as a "wretch" and a "miserable monster" and whether it was her race culture and/or gender she had an impact on society and the people around her and it changed the way she viewed herself as well, and in this case it was a negative connotation.
