Remix!

I’m going to add my pictures later today, so chill out, but I believe off-brands can be a remix. For my example, i’m going to use perfumes. At Five Below, they sell perfumes EXACTLY like the original. The scent and name is very similar, and I can’t believe it is legal to sell it. They even have a “Calvin Clien” brand. They take a popular, expensive perfume and make a new one almost exactly the same with a different name (that is also basically the same anyways). Its a similar situation as someone taking background music for a song and adding new words. Someone spent time creating a perfume, and the credit can be taken away by off-brands that make almost the same product. The original is better because it has a better scent still, and someone worked hard to make a product many people want to buy. The only positive trait from the off-brand, is the incredibly low price.

Throughout the years the Incredible Hulk has been a staple in the superhero industry. At first his appearance was rather small in frame, but as he progressed through the years he has become more of an animated and intimidating figure. You can call this a remix because it is the same character being dragged along through time, constantly upgrading and becoming more life like.

For my remix, I chose two Taylor Swift songs. Recently, there has been speculation that two songs (Style and Blank Space) on her newest album (1989) are the SAME song (just different words). So did Taylor Swift remix herself? I personally do not see an issue with it. It's her album and she can choose to make any songs that she wants, even if they sound very similar. The link to the soundcloud mashup of style and blank space show just how similar these two songs are. Did Taylor Swift remix one of these songs into the other? I like Blank Space better, but it's hard to tell which of the songs is the remix. I think this raises an interesting question though- can artists remix themselves? It is their own intellectual property, so why not?

Panic! At the Disco's video for their LGBT/Bisexual song "Girls/Girls/Boys" remixes the video idea for D'Angelo's "Untitled(How Does It Feel?)". Panic!'s video is better. For this argument, I will be looking at the video quality and theatrics, NOT the songs the men are singing. Both videos use a naked man in front of a black screen. They both use similar shots for their videos, such as a body shot up and down, and rotating the singer. That is where their similarities end. D'Angelo's video has soft vocals, and obvious lip syncing. His movements seem random, and have no motivation behind them. He is sweaty, which some may see as sexy, but I just see it as gross. He has random head jerks, and just jerky movements in general. He also has a nipple grab, which is completely unnecessary. Panic! At The Disco's video has better sound quality, and if Brendon Urie is lip syncing, it is not obvious. His body is mostly clean, with a little bit of sweat, but it is not too obvious. He does have some random movements, but most of his movements have motivation behind them. He also has a lot more "face" time, so the video is not entirely focused on his body, like D'Angelo's. In conclusion, Panic!'s video is better, because they have better sound quality, motivation behind their movements, a clean body, and the video is not focused on Brendon's body

I hope that this is the proper hashtag, I had to go back in my memory to remember that. You know who says that remixes have to be better than the original? Some just always assume that when you remix something you're creating a more appealing mix of what was created before . But I think I've found a prime example of a remix gone bad..

Remix

I’m sure a lot of you have heard the song Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo, but what a lot of you didn't know was that the chorus and general tune of that song comes from an older song by Imogen Heap called by Hide and Seek. If you skip to about 2:55 in the video, you’ll hear her singing the chorus of what sounds a lot like Derulo’s song. Now I’m not sure what exactly Hide and Seek is about, but something about it is dark and more sad to me, whereas Whatcha Say has a total opposite meaning by the sounds of it.

I didn't know until way after listening to and loving Derulo’s song that it was totally copped off of Imogen Heap’s song. Not quite sure what inspired him to do that, must be some sort of lack of creativity there and he couldn't think of anything better to write. Catchy lyrics though!!

CAUTION PROFANITY IN THE VIDEO

This YouTube video isn't necessarily a remix of the material Shakespeare wrote but of the characters he wrote about. This video is considered a parody. But my question is....a parody of what? Bonnie and Clyde? Romeo and Juliet? The rap? I think this video displays a great deal of remixes, relating to all of the various items. It doesn't just take the plot of Romeo and Juliet and twist it into a modern era, it gives the characters a different situation to deal with. It also makes Bonnie and Clyde do something similar by having to react to Romeo and Juliet. This video displays the multiple remixes.

However, you could just look at all the remixes of Romeo and Juliet. Not only could have Shakespeare copied or taken ideas from other writers at the time, there are remixes of movies based off the play. Not only one movie but multiple. Just googling “Romeo and Juliet Movies” I’ve came up with so many results. The 1968, 1976, 1955, 2006, 2013, and 1996 versions. A garden gnome version even came up which was made in  2011. The story is being remixed to inanimate objects.

Pride vs. Bride

As you may all know the movie Pride and Prejudice with the amazing Kiera Knightly  and Mathew Macfayden. The movie is basically about how Jane Austen thinks of Mr. Darcy in the wrong way. She misreads him and comes to conclusion that he is s stuck up rich man. When really she slowly starts to fall in love with him. The story is then remade into a comedy called Bride and Prejudice. A young Indian girl named Lalita meets  a man named Darcy who lives in London. He comes to India in search for a new hotel to invest in. At first she thinks he’s a stuck  up rich man who doesn't know anything but then she also falls in love with him in the end. I think the first one is way better because it shows the life of England people back then, and true romance. Also the way they talk with their English dialect is so beautiful. The second one is more of comedy and funny movie compared to the first one which is more of a romance and serious movie. Overall both were good in their own ways. Who doesn't love comedy but then who also doesn't love true romance. The theme of both movies are the same but the way they portray it is very different.
