My whole life I was told as an African American I would have to work twice as hard to get half of what caucasians have. Recent data shows this is true Women of color particularly black women make 64 cents to the white mans dollar. This disheartening fact that equal opportunity is only a lie they tell you as a kid to get you to buy into the American Dream. Where is the real America where your hard work actually pays off where dreams become reality. In today's media we see the same things happening women of color are either being represented poorly or not at all. We also see that pay gaps allow white Hollywood actors to make far more than their black co stars. Many African Americans in Hollywood are working toward a better tomorrow for not only wages but also for representation. Influential Emmy awarded actress, mother, and entrepreneur Viola Davis is fighting toward this goal , Davis's work has not only been nominated for an Emmy but has also won. her roles in the big screen redefines not only what it means to be a women or color but even what it means to be black she has mastered her craft becoming high art in the eyes of millions she has perfected acting in her own means taking on roles that would have been unimaginable 50 years ago. As Davis brakes down barriers and inspires her fans to follow their dreams the world tell her she'll never be good enough.

I think anime should be considered high art because it uses qualities found in the fine arts (fine painting, acting, music).  The frames themselves are beautiful and pleasing to the eye, just like famous paintings.  The original story line and mood is able to bring out the audience’s emotions.  The mood is portrayed through the help of music.  The animator takes all of these things seriously and has to decide how to grab the audience.  Many people think of it as childish, but anime presents many real life problems through a beautiful lens.

Here many people would probably object that religion is art because many believe that religion could be considered science. Religion explains natural phenomenons with the use of supernatural forces, instead of hard evidence. Science is based on experiments and explanations in order to discover the truths of our universe. Science is actual facts while religion is based off of beliefs. If religion is capable of making you believe a certain thing or act a certain way, then wouldn’t that be considered art?  Art gives us a way express ourselves as does religion. Religion and art represent and can show who we are as individuals and as a community. They both inspire others to create and believe in beautiful mysteries. They give reason and hope to those who do not have any. Religion and art have influenced many people to follow in the foot steps of others rather it be religious figures or famous artists. Religion is a form of art rather than a science.

This song is another cover however this one unlike my previous post is played by a quartet known as The Vitamin String Quartet. “Don’t Stop Believing” is a very famous popular song by the rock band Journey. They musicians in this recording use multiple classical techniques in order to achieve the effect of the song as well as making their performance high art. The use pizzicato is used in this piece to attain a more guitar like sound, while still being very distinctly string. They also play staccato, making the accompaniment to the melody sound much more detached, much more like rock music. Classical musicians use a lot of vibrato when playing which is they vibrate their hand on the string to makes for for a nicer sound as it has more vibration and just makes notes sound smother and more accurate. You can hear in the melody, the vibrato, especially in the lower strings.

There are many things that a violinist and string players can do when playing pop music, they can write or play original pieces, combine classical pieces with pop music, and even create and perform covers of pop music. This is a cover of the song “Wake Me Up” by Avicii that is being played by the sting trio, Simply Three. Even though this song does not technically fall under the genre of pop it still falls into a large range of genres that are considered popular music. This piece of high art, has a distinct string sound to it, while also having the same basic sound of the original song. In order to get this effect the musicians must use classical techniques. The violin is often used in classical music to give a singing like quality to a piece and in this song the violin is the instrument that plays the main instrument to play the melody and is the only instrument to play any of the melody that is actually sung in the original version. In classical music many instruments may play the same melody at different times to so a difference in the melody can be herd, as if it is changing over time when it really isn’t. It may also just be so that it can be played in different octaves. In this song the cello played an accompaniment melody that gets transferred to the violin playing the same melody. Classical music also uses a form of playing called pizzicato which is string players plucking the strings of their instruments rather than their bows which can produce multiple unique sounds whether it be a hash pulling and snapping or a soft plucking usually used to accompany other instruments. The cello and bass both use forms of pizzicato in the song to accompany the violin. One of the largest similarities that I see is the use of the violin, cello, and bass together. Tons of classical ensemble pieces are written for violin, cello, and bass, however they are usually written for quartets instead of trios and could either have two different violin parts rather than having only one, it could also have the addition of a viola, or more commonly two violins, a viola, and a cello.

In the spirit of the holiday... When I was a child, I used to think that carving pumpkins had a standard look with two triangle eyes, a triangle nose and a zipper looking mouth, now a days I can clearly see that is not the case. People can argue that carving pumpkins is not an art skill but I disagree. The carved pumpkins above are just a few examples of how a regular old pumpkin can transform into a work of art that catches people's eyes. I hope to see these on Halloween 🎃.

When most people think of pop music being played on a string instrument they think of a cover on a violin that isn’t as good as the original music. When I think of pop music on strings I do think of violins as well, along with string quartets. One of the first people to come to my mind is Lindsey Stirling. She is a violinist and a dancer so her art is absolutely astonishing to watch. She not only plays with amazing precision, but also moves. Now in traditional high art violin one would think of a violinist soloing a concerto by a long dead composer while standing still with absolutely perfect position. Now any professional violinist and even those who are not could learn to play Stirling’s music as well as she does, however they would not be able to dance and play as well as she does. Her accuracy of playing her violin and her amazing dance skills make her pop violin music high art.

-- I Have To Add -- After looking at what I have written about this piece and the video, and re watching the video I can not help but notice two similarities I over looked originally. First of all music is used to tell a story, even classical whether it is a symphony, a waltz, a minuet, or the music that goes along with a ballet. They all tell stories and all of them except for the symphony are specifically meant to have people that dance to the music just as Stirling and the other dancers are dancing to the music. The dancing only helps emphasize the story being told by the music. Second the violin and guitar respond to each other as if having a conversation which always happens in classical music, the different instruments have "conversations"

When I was a child, I used to think ice sculptures were magic because I had no idea how they were made, now I know that they are made by the hands of skilled artists. Ice sculptures are high art, it amazes me of what people can create! I don't know how they produce these high art masterpieces but they are truly amazing to look at!
