If the world was ending- part 1
The voice of the news reporter visibly trembled he read out the latest updates from the teleprompter. His eyes scanned over the text as his voice stumbled over the words as he informed thousands of people, in more technical words, that this may be the last time we will see the sun set. In a matter of moments, it was all over and the TV showed a pattern of colors which periodically switched over to static noise.
I sat there frozen. Beside me, i could feel my phone blowing up with people asking if I was okay. I could hear the rumble of the earth intertwined with the the rushed footsteps of the families trying to make it home one last time. I could feel the warm air of July on my face and in the back of my sense, I could feel the metallic tang of blood which had tainted what was supposed to be a perfect summer.
I should have been scared, I should have done something maybe. But what could I have done when anything I did would be wiped away soon. I did not know when, but i knew it would. In that moment, all I could think about was her. I knew i had to see her one last time. I could not say goodbye to my life if i did not say goodbye to her. She was, in the end, my life. Until two years Ago. I knew that i had no right to call her up in a moment like this because she would probably be with her family. Or friends. Or someone else. But when death is flowing through plates of the earth and threatening to shatter your window, you do not think about what may or may not happen. You just do.
I picked up my phone and rushed through my contacts to fine the name I had not spoken out loud in two years. That red year and smiley was still next to her name as I clicked her contact and prayed to every god i ever knew that she would pick up.
I heard a knock on the door and although every fiber of my body just wanted to stay on call just in case she picked up, I knew it was very strange that someone was knocking on my door right now. No one would do that. I clutched my phone in my hand and walked to the door, trying to suppress the small voice giving me hope. I opened the door slowly, anxious as to who would want to be away from their home at a time like this. When I opened the door, the tremor my heart felt was stronger than what the earth was going to in a few moments.
It was her.
Zombie Apocalypse games be like: Hey, I'm jack. I used to not be so cold and grizzled, but then I saw my wife eat her own pregnancy when this whole thing started. This is my partner Alex. It's short for Alexandria. But she doesn't like that name anymore, we're all different now since the incident happened. She is alright I guess.. We haven't put a label on this, why put a label on anything anymore? *Alex dies in the first 4 missions after giving white male protagonist some kind of objective* *jack kills something like 1000 to 2000 people and zombies because every lead is a red herring for like 100 hours*
