I started this story in November 2021. I stopped at Chapter 11 in June 2022 for various reasons. I finally came back to it with Chapter 12 back in February 2026, and have been faithfully adding chapters since. Chapter 20 newly released. If you want a sad Tech/Bad Batch story with mystery and hope thrown in, this might be it:

Ten years after Order 66.

Tech is on his own, not only fighting the Empire, but fighting himself.

His entire world has crumbled and now he searches for a reason to go on.

It is absolutely no bother or pressure, I am so grateful for your interest in this story! I'm sorry to say that I have not written Chapter 12 yet, it is kind of on the backburner until I get through An Unusual Alliance which is wrapping up very soon. And awww, I wish I could help more with your cry! *hugs* Not sure if any of my other works are quite as sad...you might like 'A Regular Meadow' from my Tech-ology series? Or re-read Apocalyptech? Or Chapter 14 of An Unusual Alliance, that's kind of sad! I can tag you when I finally do post Chapter 12 though if you like? Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally...  New chapter of Apocalyptech.

Hunter often stood and looked out of their room's windows when it rained, whether a severe thunderstorm or a light sprinkle. It helped to soothe his senses, to concentrate on solely the sound of the precipitation which drowned out other visual and auditory aspects of his local environment or simply brought peaceful meditation to counter the heavy toll the war exacted on him. On them all.

Excerpt:

Echo sat down in the copilot chair. “I'm going to keep my eyes on him, I don't trust him,” he said in a very low voice to Tech, side glancing back to the cabin briefly.

Tech pushed buttons and flipped switches to prepare the ship for departure from the moon. “I concur,” he said just as low. Tech did not want to think ill of his brother, any of them. But trust had been broken and needed to be re-earned as Hunter had said. Tech hoped for the best, but...

The Marauder lifted off of the dusty moon, Crosshair's shuttle in the distance, the Imperial cog on the fin becoming smaller and smaller the higher the ship rose, but the inherent doom of the galaxy symbolized by it only grew larger.

Tech picked up his pace, his legs matching the speed at which his mind raced with question after question, with no end in sight to his intrinsic need to find a solution. There was always a solution. Always. He was engineered to have an exceptional mind to figure out every situation, to always come out on top. One hundred percent mission success rate. They always survived everything that the Separatists threw at them, everything that the Empire threw at them, the bounty hunters, the less than minimal conditions they endured. They always survived. For nearly twenty cycles.

And all it took was one cycle out of twenty, to fall like dominoes. One by one.

That should be me in that grave. I failed them all.

Tech held up a finger. “Might I remind you that he has tried to kill every one of us, multiple times. Even Omega.”

'Aim for the kid.'

“But he didn't,” Hunter said looking at Omega whose dejected eyes now searched the floor earnestly for an argument with that fact, only to come up empty-handed.

“Due more to our skill and luck then his choice not to,” Tech stated emphatically. “Chip or no chip.”

Tech's eyes stung and then welled up and this time he did let the tears fall as he stared out the viewport at what could have been.

Trees with large canopies of green leaves, rolling grasses, large rock formations and caves to explore, large game to hunt, streams, rivers, and seas, snow peaked mountains that all sat beneath a sky of the richest light blue. It was a wonder that it was left uninhabited, but the Outer Rim was full of such worlds. And this one could have been theirs.
