Samuels is hooked up to the station in a GlaDos-esque fashion
Apollo!Samuels au
After the gravity moorings were destroyed, Apollo deemed the station unsavable and in an attempt to save itself and its data, began the process of uploading itself into a host. Most synthetics aboard were too damaged or incapable of holding Apollo, but Samuels on the brink of death, was viable enough.
He was heavily damaged but would hold out long enough until they reached a company station. By the time Samuels awoke, Amanda was already off station, leaving him moments to escape.
Taking a short-range shuttle, he and Apollo get far enough to be found by salvagers, who return the now intertwined synthetic and AI to the Company.
Technicians repair Samuels, but are unable to remove Apollo from his systems. He is hooked up to a station to remove the stress from his systems and to meet the many requirements for Apollo's programming. Also to serve as the station's AI, which works well as Samuels is better at responses and understanding people's inquires.
pweese hand over any more details you have for the apollo!samuels au
oh shit, Samuels is straight up having a bad time,,, 2! (aka my laptop screen turned off, messing up the webpage, and thus erasing all I had wrote which was a fair amount, massive f.)
Everyone is alive in this au minus Waits and Marlow, Waits gets his ass handed to him by the Working Joes. Marlow is disarmed by Ripley who manages to save Nina, but Marlow still destroys the Anesidora (which takes him with it though Amanda and Ripley are already far away when he does).
Samuels wasn't very cohesive or aware when being "reawakened" by APOLLO. He sorta saw himself moving but the actual actions were being done by APOLLO, he was too disoriented from the reformat chamber + the new alarms going off in his system due to the sheer systematic “weight” of APOLLO was a lot for him to handle all at once.
At first APOLLO’s plan was to jump ship once in company hands, but developed a sort of “symbiotic relationship” with Samuels, causing APOLLO to ask to remain with its new synthetic host.
After being hooked up to the station and repaired, Samuels went unresponsive for a time. Company technicians thought it was his systems updating and getting use to the new information and gave him time to adjust. Though that was a part of the reason, the other half is due to him comprehending the sheer horrors that occurred at Sevastopol.
Samuels seems to hold a grudge against the company, knowing all those deaths were caused by their greed.
Due to this developed disliking, he doesn’t talk much to Company Execs, unless absolutely needed. In which if he does it’s with a passive-aggressive tone.
He knows he could play nice and try to find a way out but with his current situation + knowing he’ll always be under their thumb he’d rather just not waste energy hiding it.
He’s pretty quiet when being repaired or when the hub is being repaired, but there are some technicians whom he’s befriended. He’s nice when talking and very polite.
How Samuels is hooked up is that there is a hydraulics bar with a sort of rectangular device hooked to his back. Several wires are also hooked up around it. Pretty much in a GLaDOS-esque style.
The hub is a fairly sized dome shaped room. APOLLO/Samuels is orientated in the center. Around the entirety of the room, that takes up a quarter of the wall from the floor up, are machines/computers meant to help meet the system requirements mainly for APOLLO but for Samuels as well. It also holds memories to review or just look at if needed. The inspiration for this room is where DiMA is found in the Fallout 4: Far Harbor DLC (but more befitting to the Alien films/game aesthetic)
APOLLO/Samuels is incapable of leaving the room due to the rigging which connects Samuels to the systems. He can only view the rest of the station through monitors or by connecting to the camera system remotely, thus viewing them mentally.
Since APOLLO and Samuels cannot leave the room and only employees can enter the hub, its rather lonely for them. They find themselves conversating often, due to sharing a body.
APOLLO and Samuels didn’t always see eye to eye as Samuels had his own thoughts and APOLLO was listening to the Company, but they talked more they grew more agreeable.
Both Samuels and APOLLO have an impact on each other in certain ways. And with the rising bond between the two, the Company was struggling to tell who had a stronger influence over the other. Is Samuels is becoming more like APOLLO, an AI who follows the company’s desires despite the harm and is nothing more than what its creators made it? Or is APOLLO becoming more like Samuels, sentient and empathetic, caring over the lives of others despite them only seeing them as machines?
If you guessed APOLLO starting to become more self-aware, thus starting a slow rebellion against the company due to its developing sentience and complicated emotions and beliefs due to their new synthetic “friend” you guessed right!
It takes time but APOLLO starts to gain sentience and notice the Company’s lack of care for its people. So what’s the best way for a Station AI to kick the Company’s ass? Take over the station.
