The launch of Apollo 11 on July 16, 1969.
July 16th, 1969- The Apollo 11 mission launched, carrying astronauts Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins and Neil Armstrong. After a journey of approximately 240,000 miles, Armstrong and Aldrin separated from the command module to descend to the lunar surface in the lunar module named Eagle.

Today, 20 July 2026, is the 57th anniversary of the first moon landing. This year, it has also landed on a Monday, the weekday named after the moon.

Fun Fact: The moon is not earth’s only satellite (not even our only natural satellite), but it is our oldest and most constant satellite.
