Connor couldn’t help it. He started to snicker, and after a moment, he started to laugh. The sound startled him, which meant it would probably startle Jordan even more. It wasn’t that Jordan’s words were especially funny or clever, but Connor appreciated them all the same. It took the blond a moment to rein himself in, and when he did, he grinned over at the other teen. The grin was earnest, a rare expression from the blond.
“You don’t need to tell me that man– trust me, I know. But hey, me too,” he replied with a shrug. He wasn’t trying to be an asshole, especially since he knew he was the same way. That wasn’t necessarily a good thing, but hey, at least they could both admit to their faults. If Jordan considered that sort of attitude a fault, anyway.

Connor looked up from his coffee cup in surprise, icy eyes widening. Had Jordan just said something… Serious? Something that wasn’t a snarky remark or an insult to Connor’s character?
Shit.
For a moment Connor is at a loss, and he has to look back down into his pitch-black cup of coffee to think. He drums his fingertips against the mug, fingernails lightly clicking on the ceramic.
The thing was, he knew exactly what Jordan was talking about. Connor understood having nightmares, and he understood dreading trying to sleep because the nightmares were always there. The blond took a deep breath before looking up, holding Jordan’s gaze with his own.
No bullshit.
“I don’t know if you’ll ever stop seeing it man, whatever it is. I… There are things I see in my sleep that I wish I could forget too. And I can’t say that you’ll ever get over it, but…” Connor worried his lower lip briefly with his teeth. “Want a cup of coffee? Maybe we can… Talk about it.”
