80550 Le Crotoy, France Ducks in madness (Vincent Duseigne 05.11.2017 07:38 Europe/Paris, 12:16min., more details... ) download: aporee.org | archive.org play_circle_filled Eating my breakfast in the park, I was astonished by the curious sound of ducks shouting. Having a look, I decided to make a small recording. While recording, a neighbour is coming, intrigued by my motionless posture. I asked him : you live with this every day ?? It's because the ducks are hungry, he said. It's a good owner who give food at the same hour everyday, and so the ducks claim. I said : And so, you live with these shouts, fights and coincoincoin everyday ?? This is Spartaaa ? We are used to, he said... This is a 10mn recording, but half an hour after, ducks were still shouting ! Ducks in madness ;-)

the crackling of the sacrificial candles - the splashing of the holy water and the Alpine stream.
Birkenstein, a labyrinthine place of pilgrimage on the edge of the Alps. Under the church is a crypt. You have to bend down to enter the cave-like small room. The round ceilings are black with soot from the sacrificial candles - about 40 white long-stemmed candles burn with a crackling sound. Above the candles a round hole for ventilation, through which you can hear the voices and movements of people climbing the wooden stairs to the chapel. Next to the crypt a small basin into which the holy water flows, which can be bottled. Next to it a souvenir store. Two visitors make a selfie and ask the others for permission. A few steps further over the open-air chapel to the brook that supposedly feeds from seven springs. A group of people are preparing for a baptism.

Peter Cusack part of a series Wind farm: a rotating humming generator in the green environment, cycles of birds, weather, distance; audio stream, 16321 Bernau bei Berlin, Germany - Strong rotation with crows, thrushes, larks
Sounds of a wind generator - one in a farm of around 25 towers - in the flat Brandenburg countryside north of Berlin. A surprising amount of wildlife seems to be able to co-exist with the humming physical presence of these huge towers, especially a good variety of small birds whose habitat is open fields and patchy woodland, such as sky and wood larks. There are many deer. An audio stream was set up for 3 days, with mics hidden in a low bush near a hunting hide at the edge of the trees, to listen to this combination of green tech and nature. It is an 'anthropophone' (term courtesy Udo Noll) - to hear places where problematic interactions between the human and the natural are audible. Given the ever increasing demands for clean energy this rotating humming mix is likely to be the dominant sonic future in rural areas. The generators follow the rise and fall of wind speeds and the changes of direction. Sometimes they are becalmed. The mechanism emits unpredictable sharp metallic twangs every now and again that reverberate through the towers and out into the surrounding landscape. Winds gives these machines a seemingly organic character of their own and a quirky musicality.

Stargarder Str. 11, 10437 Berlin, Germany - 2 Saxophonists entertain the street from above
I just happened to be cycling past when 2 saxophonists started playing from high windows on opposite sides of the street and people stop to listen. So a hurried recording to capture the moment. Traffic still passes and there's a rare plane. My area has had none of the mass applause for health workers or coordinated bell ringing describe from elsewhere. But spontaneous individual sonic acts definitely fit with the Berlin character and this is one of them. I really like that until the applause happens in the recording you have no idea other people are there. The clapping reverberating from the walls reveals not only them but the size and dimensions of the street.
