Speech after the Removal of the Larynx - Harm A. Drost
So many people out here are trying so hard to be disturbing and edgy and here comes cute little folkways records with it's Pete Seeger records cornering you at a party and goes "Want to hear my record on voice replacement after the Larynx is removed?"
Here is the Folkways description:
Recorded in 1964 by Harm A. Drost, this album demonstrates the evolving developments in artificial voice creation after the removal of the larynx. After a growing interest in artificial voice production, Drost deemed that "A phonograph record demonstrating some of these forms of speech in which sounds are created without the use of vocal cords therefore seemed to us a useful contribution." The album walks the listener through the different available methods. Liner notes include detailed information on each method demonstrated in the tracks.

A huge treasure trove of songs and interviews recorded by the legendary folklorist Alan Lomax from the 1940s into the 1990s has been digitiz
An amazing library of field recordings by the most renowned U.S. music historian and archivist of the 20th century. The interface is a bit wonky, but the results are gold. If you've ever read Lomax's book Land Where the Blues Began, which details his trip down to the Deep South to hear and record Black musicians in 1942 and subsequently—and I recommend it highly—this'll give you an idea of some of the music he found on that trip.
Here's a sample: "I'll Fly Away," as performed by the congregation of the Silent Grove Baptist Church, Clarksdale, MS, in August of 1942.
