Okay, so you missed this convo.
Amish romance is a weirdly popular genre, none of which are actually written by, or with the viewpoints of, actual Amish people. They mostly are written by Baptist/Evangelical authors who put in their own belief without bothering to fact check. They’re particularly popular in large print because of the older demographic, and its popularity is to the point half the people who came into the library checked out at least one, if not reading them almost exclusively.
I assumed it might just be because I live in a super white, conservative Christian small town with lots of farms and a retirement building near the library, but every person I have talked to who has worked in a library (and sometimes bookstores) has been just as baffled by their popularity.
Some of the novels even have Hallmark or Lifetime movies made of them. My small town library alone owned almost 200 in total, and if I see the name “Wanda E. Brunstetter” again it will be too soon.
