Small silly fringe theory before chapter 5 comes out.
Let's call it Applecore theory.
As we all know Kris has lots of association with apples. Apple scented shampoo, they bite the apple Susie was bullying them with in sweepstakes, the tea party scene in chapter 4 and other things.
But why?
It always stuck out to me. The other apple theories I have seen are cool and make sense but I can't stop thinking about that one tweet Toby made.
"Green apple shampoo"
"You wonder if Susie would recognize you if you changed to a different fruit."
What an interesting way to word that sentence.
Why wouldn't Susie recognize Kris? Last time I checked she didn't have any issues with her eyes.
I think this sentence is meant to be metaphorical. Would Susie recognize Kris if something about them was different.
Huh.
Wait a minute...
There already is something different about Kris.
Us.
The Kris Susie knows isn't the real Kris.
Susie knows the apple(us) but not the different fruit (Kris).
But wait. Kris still has such a strong connection to apples. Why wouldn't Kris be the apple in this context?
Because I think apple is symbolism for something or in this case someone that is better. Kris doesn't love themselves. And how can they? No one in the town even realized something is very very wrong with them. Kris wants to belong but can't.
So Kris wants to be an apple.
But what they got was us.
We are the apple. We are the one who fought against the bosses and saved the day. We are the reason they have friends again. We are the one who befriended Susie.
Susie loves apples. That's why we (the apple) became Susie's friend. Not Kris. Because Kris is another fruit.
And the townsfolk seem to be fine with this new Kris. Some more than others(CouGh cOUgh Carol coUgH). A certain fruit is obviously favored more. And Kris is aware of it. That's why they try.
But no matter how many apples they eat, how much apple scented shampoo they use...
