of all the people she had expected to see within the ominous stone, steve rogers was the last she’d hope for. seeing him here meant to her that most of earth, especially north america, was left undefended. tony had already been lost to the mortal coil, and most of the defenders of earth had taken a heavy hit by showing up.

it was troubling. still, she approached the tall blond with a half smirk. “i’d use the meme ‘surprise bitch, bet you thought you’d seen the last of me’ but i don’t think you’re hip enough to get it.” she joked, her voice exuding sarcasm as she folded her arms across her chest. “it’s nice to see you steve, though i wish it was more in the context of me haunting you on earth and not... in here.”

maria prides herself in being a patient person. strict and no-nonsense kind of woman, yes, but she was also patient. she had to be if she was dealing with otherworldly people and at the same time run s.h.i.e.l.d. so it was definitely in her job description to be completely patient. but this? oh, this was testing her. “are you fucking kidding me right now?,” she muttered to herself when she found her gun turn into something she could buy at the toddlers section in a toy store, complete with the sound effects. “zip it,” she hissed at steve. “don’t even try.”
