Regarding Writer Apps

By the way, there’s something we’d like to address.

Many of the writer applications we’ve received have included examples with over 1500 words, despite our clear rule against doing so.

Please be aware that all examples over 1500 words will be completely ignored.

Feel free to reapply with shorter examples, though! Just use the same name and/or email, and leave us a note.

Hi! I'm the anon, I believe. How exactly are the applications going to work, like, will there be a selection and if yes, to what criteria? And for fanfic, will there be a min/max wordcount?

Hi! Sorry we lost your message! Application info, including criteria, will be posted when we announce the theme of the blog on april 25th. Essentially, both writers and artists will provide a small portfolio and the mod team will accept contributors based on them. There will be 3 fanfic tiers for the zine: 1000 words, 2000 words and 3,500 words. We will probably accept 5-7 writers in total. Total word count for a writer’s portfolio cannot exceed 5000 words.

This will be explained more thoroughly when we release the official application posts, but I hope that helps for now.

       What You Need to Know About Spellbound Apps

Applications open April 20th and close May 20th. We are accepting 36 participants total: 19 artists, 1 cover artist, 8-10 merch artists, and 8 writers.

Writers:

We are accepting 8 writers. Each writer will be expected to submit three examples of what they consider their zine standard (this means writing that is representative of what you’ll create for this zine). Each example should be between 2k and 5k words, excerpts from longer stories are fine! While this zine is SFW only, all three mods are 18+ so NSFW submissions will be accepted. Non-Voltron writing is also acceptable, but it’s recommended that at least one of your submissions is related to the series!

Artists:

We are accepting 19 artists and 1 cover artist. For applications, we ask that each artist submit three examples of what they consider their zine standard (this means art that is representative of what you’ll create for this zine). Traditional art is acceptable, but we ask that you show us that you’ll be capable of submitting a final piece to the zine that is the right quality and resolution. Non-Voltron art is also acceptable, but as with writers, it’s recommended that at least one piece is relevant to the series.

Merch Artists:

We are accepting 8-10 merch artists. We ask that you share with us three examples of what you’ll be capable of creating as merch for the zine. If you have previous experience creating merch (for other zines or personal use) please let us know! Not all merch art examples need to be merch and we’re more than willing to accept merch applicants who don’t have experience making merch prior, as long as they’re willing to work with us!

Hello everyone! We’re just one day out from the beginning of our application period, so this is the last of our information posts about each role within the zine and what we’re looking for. We’ve covered writer applications and artist applications, so today is for merchandise artist applications!

The information here is for those of you looking to apply exclusively as a merchandise artist, otherwise head over to our post about artist applications!

Merchandise Artist Participation: General Information

Merchandise Artists will be chosen to create one or more pieces of merchandise for the zine.

Several merchandise styles have been decided on by the moderator team, however accepted artists will have the option to suggest other choices as well.

Merchandise Artist Applications: General Information

Like with the artists and writers, you’ll be asked to link us to up to three of what you believe are your best pieces.

It is preferred that one of these submissions be Sheith so we can see how you draw both Keith and Shiro, but not required.

All styles of previous merchandise will be accepted.

Applicants will also be allowed to link to an art portfolio, but know that this will only be used as a last resort and the evaluated piece will be selected randomly.

After linking us to your selected submissions, you’ll be asked to check off any and all merchandise styles you would be interested in designing. This will help us with final assignments should you be accepted to the zine.

Applicants will have the option to express interest in designing multiple pieces of merchandise for the zine or sign up for just one piece.

Will the people who hand in less samples have less of a chance of being in the zine? Also, is it fine to have less than three pairings we want to write for?

hi there! absolutely not! we’ll treat every application with the exact same weight. we understand that not everyone has the maximum samples to submit, but we will still use what you have to evaluate your app! as for pairings, you don’t have to have three of those, either. in fact, you don’t have to have pairings at all! we just want to know your top three options you’d like to write for so we have an idea of what we’ll have moving forward. hope that helps, and good luck!

for the artist application, is it ok to just link to the post of our artwork on our tumblr? if not how do we link it? sorry if that sounds confusing but thanks in advance anyways

Hey that’s ok, linking to your Tumblr is just fine! To do that, all you need to do is click the ‘send’ arrow at the bottom of the post as if you were going to message it directly to someone. From there one of the bubbles the pops up will be the ‘copy’ option (the icon is a hyperlink symbol, looks like an angled infinity sign). This will provide you with a direct link to that post!
