Legacy: What is their family like?

Elana was born in Lervach, a port city south of Vesuvia to her parents Roderick and Ariel. Elana has two older siblings - a sister Maura, who is 6 years older than her, and her brother Fintan, who is 4 years older. The MacCailin family (her father’s side) has a very long history as traveling merchants, but the family has a permanent residence and a lot of ties in Lervach. Her mother is a blacksmith and forges most of what the family sells, and her father makes jewelry and handles most of the traveling business.

Elana was very close to her grandmother, Sorcha, who was a witch and taught Elana some of her spells, and she also told her fascinating stories of the adventures she’d had in her youth. Elana’s parents and uncle encouraged her to train to be a knight like her brother; instead she left home to become an adventurer just before turning 16, supported at first mostly by her brother and grandmother. Despite the initial tension, the family remains close, though Elana writes more to Fintan than to anyone else after her grandmother died.

Mask: What secrets do they keep?

She doesn’t like to show vulnerability to strangers, so she isn’t as forthright as she might seem on an initial impression. Her confident and gregarious demeanor is not an act, but it’s something she tends to cling to even when she does feel uncertain or afraid. With someone she trusts, she’ll be more honest about what’s troubling her. Even then, she won’t like to dwell on it long, preferring to deal with the problem at hand and be a source of courage for others. She doesn’t mind hearing about other people’s troubles or worries, though! Especially if she can be involved in solving them, or in making the other person feel better.

One secret she consciously keeps is her dabbling in blood magic, which she felt she had to turn to for survival durning some of her hardest days on the road. She’s not ashamed of knowing it, but it generally comes with a lot of negative stigma to be known as a witch who practices it, and even more questions.

The only other thing she might really hide is that she has a small skill with pickpocketing, though she does it much less now than she did as a wanderer.

julian - does your mc get easily flurstered? (if not then what does it take to make them flustered?)

No! Elana’s rather hard to fluster, especially when in a good or neutral mood. She’s been around all kinds of people and with her energetic nature and quick wit (i.e she’s a bit of a shit) she’s not that easily embarrassed, and takes a lot in stride.

To make her flustered, you’d have to be particularly bold or especially romantic. Sappy, even, especially if you can get close enough to whisper such things in her ear. You can expect her to turn red, and try to come up with a quick joke to hide her sudden nervousness and attempt to lessen the emotional impact. Elana when knowingly in love with someone saying such things would probably respond in kind, with slyness and bold praise.

On the flip side, she loves flustering others. Teasing them, and making them stutter and blush. She’s generally not that serious about it. Mostly she enjoys the reaction, especially if it cheers up the person she’s flustering.

nadia - does your mc have high standards for certain things? if so, for what? (for ex: like their s/o, cleanliness of house)

Elana’s standards for many things are moderate, she’s lived around some rough people and places so she’s learned to appreciate goodness in spite of things. The shop is organized chaos, but she and Asra keep it moderately clean. As far as a s/o goes, Elana tends to be a slower burn type romantically, but would likely enter into a sexual relationship first. Her standards, mostly, are whether she finds them attractive, if they can take care of themselves, and how controlling of her they try to be.

That said, given the opportunity, she loves the finer things in life and has been greatly enjoying Nadia’s hospitality and generosity.

Elana loves, loves, loves Nadia’s hair. It’s long, beautiful, and luxurious and she just wants to rub her fingers through it and braid it.

Long overdue, using the fantastic template here!

The daggers are an image of Skyrim’s ebony daggers, because when I rolled this character into Skyrim once, she took to the enchanting skill! These were her favorite weapon, enchanted with Absorb Health. Thus, she is an enchanter in the Arcana universe and still owns a set of enchanted daggers from her adventuring days, though her combat skills are somewhat out of practice.
