Zenn Headcanons

Pre-Plague— 

-A travelling acrobatic performer from the West

 -Began travelling at the age of 6 with an acrobatic troupe 

-Felt they needed to escape and have a fresh start because they did not fit in in the highly-reserved culture of the West. 

-The troupe encouraged them to be who they are—"To hell with those stuck-up barons in their silk thrones. You are more valuable than their gold and silks, dearest Zenn.” 

-The leader—a giant of a man with skin like the darkest clay, ruby eyes, and a braided silver beard—taught Zenn how to bind their chest without restricting their flexibility 

-As a treat, the leader strayed from their route for a show in a village that was slightly off the beaten path. He’d said that it was a surprise for Zenn’s 12th birthday 

-After the show, the leader told Zenn to freshen up and meet him by the nearby lake. He had a birthday present for them, he said. Zenn followed the directions. When they approached the lake, they noticed a small boat. The leader explained that, when he was about Zenn’s age, he had parts of his body that he longed to change. To make them reflect who he is. His uncle brought him to this very village, to this very witch. She helped him be happy in his body. He asked Zenn if they would like to visit the witch. Their heart thrummed in their chest and they answered eagerly. The leader promised to hold their hand the whole time, as his uncle had done for him. They climbed into the boat, rowed to the witch’s hut, and rowed back a happier person.

 -Travelled with the troupe for 10 years as their star, then parted ways to broaden their horizons 

-Came to Vesuvia because they heard the Count threw bangin’ ass parties 

-When they arrived, they were surprised to find that everyone was…like, really glum and gloomy. What’s with that?

 -Walking handstands always cheer people up, right?? They walked around the marketplace on their calloused hands, ending with a cartwheel into a double backflip. Not a single person seemed to notice. 

-When they asked a lanky, harried-seeming passerby he told them that Vesuvia was wracked with a plague.

 -Zenn caught the plague when they decided to perform for its victims and make remedies to ease their passing at the Lazaret. 

 Post-Resurrection— 

-Calls Portia “peach” when they’re alone, and “Pasha” when they’re not; Portia calls them “honey” 

-Sometimes, when they’re heading into a meeting with Nadia and Pasha’s in work-mode, they’ll lean in for a quick kiss on the jaw and let the private pet name slip, just to see her response.

 -Has a remedy for everything—usually in the form of tea, but the serious stuff? That’s all soup. 

-They’re not a doctor, though. They know when to direct people to Ilya and his magic maker. 

-Has taught Portia everything they know about green magic and is proud to say that she may someday surpass their skills 

-Bongo and Pepi are inseparable and insufferable and will drive their owners to an early grave with their mischief.

 -Portia’s days off are the best days—Zenn picks up breakfast from Hestion and sneaks back before Portia even begins to stir. They have the table set, the lemonade out, and their tea brewing as they open the curtains to let the sunrise gently wake their love.

 -Fell in love when they first caught sight of Portia in the marketplace—her beautiful red curls, the freckles that dust her cheeks and shoulders, the irresistible curve of her—LIPS. 

-Alright, they had to admit there were some impure thoughts about the curves of Portia’s body, even at their first meeting…but come on, you’ve seen Pasha! She’s a goddess! 

-They are gainfully unemployed. They offer free aid to any castle staff member who is in need of their talents, but aside from that? They read fairytales, they do yoga and practice their acrobatic gymnastics, they knick snacks from the kitchen, and they lend a hand where it’s needed.

 -They ALWAYS have dinner prepared for Pasha. At this point, she isn’t sure if everything they make is magical to some degree, or if they’re just a really good cook. There’s an equal chance of each. 

 -Zenn always makes sure to slip in remedies for sore muscles and anxious thoughts. Their peach deserves time to unwind after work and a little Tension Tamer and Worrynot tea takes no extra time at all. They call it the Pasha special—the mixture even tastes great in a stein of hoppy beer.

“Does your MC have an obsession with something?”

Zenn: Sweets. They’ve trained their familiar, Bongo the ferret, to sneak into the kitchens and snag snacks for them to share :)

Vella: Romance novels. She hoards them. She particularly loves the EXTRA cheesy smutty ones. She’s perfected the art of reading them in public with a poker face, so if you see her carrying a book around...there’s a pretty good chance it’s one about a stable hand and a noble lady.

Aeris: She’s the queen of hyperfixations, so she becomes pretty obsessive often. But her absolute favorite obsession is puzzles. Any kind. Word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, fidget puzzles. Any kind she can get her hands on. She LOVES figuring things out.

Rhea: Mushrooms. She thinks they’re the coolest. So many different shapes and sizes and colors; some are delicious, some will kill you. She never returns from a foraging trip without at least 6 different kinds of mushrooms to teach Muriel about.

Mina: For several years, Mina didn’t have the luxury of having an obsession that wasn’t “Stay alive.” Now that she’s living safe and comfortable in Vesuvia, however, she’s found herself highly interested in noble fashion. Particularly military uniforms. When Lucio said he would spoil her rotten, he didn’t anticipate most of her requests being related to precuring different uniforms from all over the world.

Emery: With her psionic abilities, she’s developed a bad habit. She’s obsessed with eavesdropping. Mostly, she’s just trying to figure out what she can do to help people. However, she does love overhearing juicy bits of gossip as well.

Serana: She’s obsessed with control. Serana’s always been ambitious to the point of ruthlessness...Even in low-stakes situations, she has to be the one calling the shots. This woman doesn’t even know the meaning of the word “submissive”.

Renn: They're obsessed with learning. Specifically, they love trying new skills and learning more about other cultures. Renn left their life with the fae behind due to the stagnated, routine monotony. Parties, feasts, foraging, petty squabbles. They needed a change after two centuries of the same old nonsense. Life amongst the humans of Vesuvia taught them that there was so much joy to be found in the simplest parts of life.
