5. Wish
I wish I didn’t care so much what people thought about me. I wish I was better at multi-tasking. I wish I wasn’t so anxious all the time. I wish I didn’t have to take care of babies going through withdrawal this week (or, ever. I wish that wasn’t A Thing). I wish I could ski powder more often. I wish we had extensive reliable public transit in this city. I wish I wasn’t scared of falling. I wish my brother and his family lived closer. I wish people didn’t litter. I wish politics weren’t corrupt. I wish my dog would live forever. I wish on every eyelash and every dandelion.
Evaluate #AprilBlogaDay
It was 2 1/2 weeks since my previous post when I accepted the #AprilBlogaDay challenge.
I needed a jump-start. What did I get?
Reviewing my 30 tweets in 30 days, here is what I concentrated on…
Authentic Topics
I started #AprilBlogaDay by opening up many, many “Drafts” I had started but not yet finished (later I read this great article about this strategy). This did give me momentum which carried…

Day 27: Get out of Dodge Part 2
Day 27: Get out of Dodge Part 2 #aprilblogaday
Yesterday, I wrote about how getting out of town was good for me. I also wanted write this other reflection about leaving town and escaping the stress.
It’s easy for me to leave Dodge. I have to the means to. Not all of my students have that option. Some of my students come to school hungry, dirty and tired. I see other students who do want to leave school. School is where they come to be…

Making Time… #AprilBlogaDay
In my eLearning role I hear and try to respond to the call for more trainings, more in-depth training. But what are teachers really asking for? Time.
[Tweet “I hear calls for more in-depth training. But what are teachers really asking for? Time.”]
Time is a finite commodity. It must be conserved by using greater efficiency when possible. Consider the difference between your first and fifth year…

Day 26: Getting out of Dodge
Day 26: Getting out of Dodge #aprilblogaday
Last week was hard. I am not going to lie. At points, I wanted to cry, scream and leave all at the same time, but I didn’t. Instead, I did a smart thing and left town on Friday night. I left work early for me, loaded the car and drove to Minneapolis to see family and friends.
By the time the car had passed Iowa City, my school brain had turned off. The long to-do list disappeared and all…

5 Wrong Beliefs Holding Teachers Back #AprilBlogaDay
5 Wrong Beliefs Holding Teachers Back #AprilBlogaDay
I am just a teacher.
You are not “just” a teacher. You – are – a – teacher! And teachers close the door and have the undivided attention of the young for impressive stretches of time. You set the weather for their learning each time you teach. You show them not how to be perfect, but how to chase improvement; you set them up for a lifetime of resilience. You are an authority to them. Very few…

Twitter in Education #AprilBlogaDay
April 2015 I hit 10,000 tweets…I didn’t know I had that much to say. However, I have to say that I am very happy with my current relationship to Twitter. Twitter in education is not the same as in our industries, certainly not the sports or entertainment industries. I have been using Twitter since 2009 as an educator and I will share my current usage of Twitter. I would appreciate if you tell me…
