okay since you asked: Arya x Gendry/Concert AU (ANYTHING BUT 1D)

i was looking for something in my email and i realized i finished this but never posted it i am sorry i am trash i am the worst

consider this part of the paint me verse i guess

"I think I'm the only guy here," Gendry mutters into her ear.

"Hmm?" she mumbles back, craning her neck to look around the crowd, like maybe she'll spot one of the performers hiding out among the hordes of teenage girls minutes before their own show, "No, I see some dads."

 It was supposed to be Sansa here, not him. She and Arya had bought the tickets months before, along with their parents permission to drive to the arena in the next city over. Their condition had been, of course, that a mature, responsible adult be present at all times. After much debate and, Gendry guessed, crocodile tears, Sansa had been deemed such a person. 

 Then Sansa got the flu and Gendry was chosen as a stand-in for Arya's sister. Which. Well, it wasn't ideal. He's almost a little offended that the overprotective Starks trusted him with their youngest daughter. 

Arya presses closer and grips his arm as a group of girls pushes past her and yeah, Gendry's feelings for her aren't exactly sisterly. Or brotherly. Whatever.

The house lights go down and the stage is flooded with an eerie green glow. There's a brief silence, like an intake of breath before a gasp. It's immediately replaced by blaring sirens and the screams of hundreds of girls. God, he thought, they're militarizing. Arya looked as if she was about to burst out of her skin with excitement, bouncing up and down while crowing with an aggressive sort of glee. 

When he thinks the screaming can't get any louder, the performers come out and. That's a lot of leather. And lace. And... see-through stuff. He doesn't really know much about the band, aside from the song he'd seen Arya do a routine to a few months back. She'd danced in a t-shirt and those baggy pants that always made him think of MC Hammer, and she'd looked amazing. She always looked amazing when she danced. The Hammer pants were great. But this, the fishnets and the--was that a harness on one of them?-- was giving him images. Decidedly unsisterly images. 

The rest of the concert goes in much the same way, which screaming girls and singing girls and dancing girls. They're not really Gendry's genre-- he's a classic rock fan, likes anything that could be played in a tattoo shop or during a beer commercial-- but he can tell they're good. Arya may as well have stars in her eyes, for all the obvious adoration on her face.  At one point one of the four girls on stage steps forward, and in a voice that should be coming out of an adorable woodland creature, asks the crowd "Okay, now, I think it's fair to say that judging by Fifth Harmony, us, Demi... tonight is pretty much all about the girls, right?" 

In the midst of the resultant roar, Arya turns to him and smirks, one of her brows cocked in a taunt. He just rolls his eyes while the band launches into a medley of girl band songs. It's all very fun and nostalgic until the beat picks up and suddenly the entire crowd is singing the lyrics to Bootylicious of all things. He's about to laugh, but Arya backs up against him and starts dancing, rolling her hips and arching her spine while Gendry sees his life flash before his eyes. On stage, the singers push their male dancers to the floor and plant heavy-looking boots into their backs. Distantly, Gendry wonders if he should be scared of these girls, but he can't think of anything past the girl in front of him, pulling his hands to her waist and moving against him. 

Mercifully, (or tragically, Gendry's not sure) the dancing ends. The next song is a slower, sweeter one about inner beauty and girl power, more of a lighter-waver than an ass-shaker. Gendry lets out a sigh of relief, having survived yet another day without getting an erection in Arya Stark's presence. He has the willpower of a god. 

She and every other girl in the audience are shouting the words to the song, screaming about being beautiful and wonderful, and he feels a pang of pride for the girl who had once assaulted him for calling her pretty. She's too focused on the performance to see what is probably an embarrassingly fond expression on his face, though.

When the concert is over, Arya is buzzing with energy, riding it like a wave from the arena to the parking lot. 

"And did you see that one move the dancers did during Move? I mean, it was really simple, but it had such a good attitude to it! They were so fucking good."

"Yeah," he agreed, despite having no idea what she was talking about. 

"And the girls' voices are amazing, I can't believe how good they sound live," she barreled on, not waiting for his input anymore.

They reach Gendry's beat-up black Jeep while she gushes. She leans against the side while he digs his keys out of his pocket. He's completely lost track of what she's saying, until she asks him a question.

"Hey, what if I dressed more like Jesy for my next showcase?"

"Uh," he fumbles the key in the lock, "which one was she?"

Arya sighs dramatically. "My favorite, the one who beatboxes! She was the one in the shorts. With the boots?"

 Right. The shorts. With the scary boots. And fishnets. And thigh-high stockings. Christ.

 "My teacher says I need to think more about presentation and stuff, and I wanted to do more hip hop, so. That'd be pretty cool, right?"

 He has an image of her dancing on a stage, in complete command of her own body, defiant confidence evident in every gesture, every muscle. He imagines little girls staring starry-eyed at her, and little boys terrified but devoted to the performance nonetheless. He smiles.

 "Yeah, that'd be pretty cool."

FOR IMPORTANT REFERENCE:

-if you are not familiar with the band performing, they are UNDERRATED R&B/POP GIRL GROUP LITTLE MIX and they are wonderful. 

-they were with demi lovato and fifth harmony for the neon lights tour, which was still ongoing when i initially wrote this. i based my description of the show on this video (which unfortunately cuts off the end of the set), although apparently i am to lazy to mention the fact that arya and gendry would have seen the other performances that night as well. OH WELL. 

-this is the jesy outfit i was talking about. ayyyyyyyyyyyy

-part of my logic in writing this is that arya would be a HARDCORE JESY GIRL. like. jesy is basically her lady nym in this verse. i don't have a lot of scientific reasoning behind this but it FEELS RIGHT.

i know you're not into 1d (tsk) but i feel like it's such a good thing that he and harry didn't sit closer at lfw 2012 because they're both such endearing flops that the world would probably cease functioning if they came into physical contact with each other
