Omg I'm finally a union member!!!
What I need to do my job safely:
My own small monitor, separate from my iPad, at least 2m away from everybody else, NOT SHARED with anyone else, easy to move on my own.
A way to communicate with the rest of the crew.
A way to change the batteries in my comtek.
Extra time to disinfect my stuff, maintain communication, get tea, etc.
Masks.
Hand sanitizer.
Lingettes désinfectantes (70 % d’alcool).
Mouchoirs.
Short nails.
People actually staying 2m away from me.
Questions to ask:
Who changes the batteries in my comtek? Who disinfects my comtek? Where do I put it at the end of the day?
Who disinfects my monitor?
How do I communicate with the director, AD, CCM, décor, etc.?
Can I use my own masks?
How often do I need to change my mask?
How will I get tea?
Will I have extra time for disinfecting all my stuff every day?
Will I need to wash my clothes after only one day of use? (E.g. I usually wear the same pants all week and then wash them on the weekend.)
How do I get to work? (I don't have a car and usually get rides.)
I just sent an e-mail to the union asking if I really need to do a 15-day unpaid observational internship considering that I've been doing this job now for six years and have more than enough credits to join the union. I hope they take it well; I'm not necessarily very diplomatic when I'm writing in my second language.
I'm just really not keen to sit around on set for three weeks doing nothing (you're not even allowed to work as an assistant when you're doing your stage d'observation) and getting paid nothing.
Anyway that was a super scary e-mail to write, so Go Me!
Got a reply from the union about what hoops I have to jump through to avoid jumping through the hoop I don't want to jump through, but I still have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I don't know if that's because my French isn't good enough or if it's just a really confusing e-mail. Now I have to decide which of my francophone acquaintances I'm going to bug with this nonsense.
Another scary e-mail to the union written and sent!!
Go Me!!
Letter from the film and television unions of Quebec to the premier, asking that shoots be shut down across the province (apparently some crew are already refusing to go to work).
