AT Day 79 - The tiny cut that stopped me and my Sea Eagle kayak. That said, it didn’t sink and I did do another 20 miles like this, but it needs fixed before the last section of river as its pretty remote.
AT Day 79 - The entrance to FRCC right from the Shenandoah! That tunnel goes under the train tracks and up to their rafting compound up the hill. Great place, very helpful, friendly people.
I hiked with MapMyHike! Distance: 5.24mi, time: 02:55:55, pace: 33:34min/mi, speed: 1.79mi/h.

AT Day 79
Miles: ~5 Steps: NA Bears: 0 Snakes: 0 Body: Good Gear: Sea Eagle being repaired at FRCC(!) Staying at: Front Royal, VA Well I survived the night with no biker attacks. There were some thunderstorms though and I survived those too. The Sea Eagle's bottom section was completely flat this morning so I reinflated it, kept the pump and hose inside with me and put in. I could hear it leaking when I got on the water but the bottom doesn't deflate all the way and the big side pontoons and inflatable sections in the front and back keep the entire craft fairly sea worthy. I think they did a good job on the design for this to basically just have a double layer of uninflated material under me and for it to still be usable. I wasn't sure where I was going to get out but Front Royal was ahead so I figured I'd just take it easy and go figure it out. About 5 miles down river imagine my surprise to find a big painted sign on the middle of the right bank that said FRCC on one side and on the other instructions to boaters on what to do with tubes, paddles, etc. It was all painted on a full-on tunnel UNDER the train tracks which had been following the river for miles. I figured this was my obvious / best chance so I pulled up, strapped on my pack and walked up the hill. FRCC stands for Front Royal Canoe Company. They have quite a large operation with hundreds of tubes, multiple buses, kayaks, canoes, etc. I talked to a guy about my situation and he had me bring the Sea Eagle up so we could find the hole. Turns out the hole is right on a seam so the repair is going to be iffy. He needed some time to work on it and then the repair needed to sit 24 hours so I'm staying in Front Royal until Wednesday morning. I'll be doing all the usual stuff while I'm here. The urge to eat isn't so all consuming like after hiking for 5 days, but I'm still looking forward to some good meals and coffee while I'm here. I've come a bit over 100 river miles and think I have about ~60 or so to go. Hopefully when I leave Wednesday I'll be able to make Harpers Ferry in 3 days. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
AT Day 78 - Island campsite number 2!
AT Day 78 - Portage around one of these bizarre low bridges in VA.
