What are your favourite TWST ships in general?

I don't actually ship anyone in Twst? Honestly, I think I like the games' themes of found family, the bonds of friendship, and other male platonic relationships to be more compelling than romance.

I mean, there are some with potential? I love the Octatrio's dynamics no matter the ships both platonic and romantic within their little trio.

Pomefam have great relationships as well.

And so does Diafam when they finally tell each other how much they mean to each other.

Idia and his family have interesting dynamics...

Honestly, yeah, I just don't see twst characters engaging in romantic endeavors because I know that most of them wouldn't last past graduation and if they do, it might become borderline toxic, but I suppose there's an appeal to that.

You mentioned in the comments about fics like that tend to follow the story to the letter. Honestly, I agree. I noticed that too. Granted, there are exceptions. I bookmarked a few on my own account. But, yeah. I find that a lot of them follow the plot beat for beat, rarely changing the canon drastically.

I try to make the events of the story differ from the canon. But, I think that's partly due to both wanting Addie's actions have an impact on the plot like any protagonist should and it being a fix-it for the game, so I scrap and change elements of the game that just don't work. Hell, I even came up with my own worldbuilding, since the canon one is so terrible.

While I think I'm too late down the rabbithole to change that, it's something I wonder about if I had a complete do-over that I would change. Because it would be nice to try something different. But, at the same time, I'm satisfied with her befriending those two along with others like Vil and Jack.

Still need to read your fic, though. I never gotta around to it yet. 😅

Yeah, while I do love twst and what people can do with it, it’s very taxing to read, over and over again, about the events of Heartslabyul, followed by Savanalcaw, and so on.

Like, what if someone scrapped the Overblots altogether? Or wrote them out of order? Or approached the Overblots from a different angle than just beating them with magic? What if the mc was like an actual licensed therapist who helps in the aftermath? What if the mc never enrolled as a student at NRC and instead made a living in the town below and watched form afar as the town begins the rumor mill of supposed Overblots?

Like, there’s so much potential!

That’s why I normally don’t read rewrites of twst because I already know the formula. Even if the mc is interesting, it doesn’t hold my attention for too long. That, and I risk contaminating my own story with someone else’s ideas by accident.

If you could pair up Key with any of the characters in your fic in a shipping sense, including the OCs, who would it be and why?

Ooohhhhh, never thought I'd be asked a question like this!

Anyway, given how Key is still stuck in survival mode and still contemplating on the question of whether or not she can return home, she isn't going to be at all focused on romance. Friendship maybe, but anything deeper is out of the question. However, if circumstances were to change, if her perception of what choices are available to her have become clear, I think I'll have to go with the somewhat cliche route.

My favorite fox boy, Cameron Norton.

Their banter was really funny and fun to write and read during the prologue arc. They have a good, established relationship, they certainly trust each other, and have seen each other at some of their most vulnerable moments. They know a certain extent of each others hopes and dreams (although it wouldn't hurt for more heart to hearts if they were to ever pursue a romantic relationship). Furthermore, it would probably go down a friends to lovers type of story. Perhaps Cameron would make teasing, joking comments in his emails to Key about "dating" and maybe Key responds in kind. These jokes gradually develop into something true and real when they eventually move out of emails and either meet up face to face or actually call each other.

However, while their relationship is very positive and I have feeling they would bring out the best in each other, I think it would be kind of... unhealthy to say the least. From what we have seen, Key is isolated. Very isolated. Sure, she's on amicable terms with the Housewardens and is slowly accepting the found family vibe with the custodians (but still very guarded), but that doesn't mean she's truly ready to accept new relationships. Except for Cam. He alone is the one true friend Key has at the moment of writing this. Yet, if there is a romantic relationship at this moment of the story, Key would be using Cam as a crutch and not venturing outside of her relationship with him.

I think I would do a disservice to both key and Cam in the story if I were to treat their bond as such.

So, maybe in the future after Key's arc has long since finished, but not definitely a priority at the moment.

As for canon relationships...

Again, at the moment, there isn't any need for romance. Key is still very much a member of staff and while she is basically around the students' age, there is still an inherent power imbalance that is somewhat equalized by the fact that she's only a secretary/janitor. And she's also magicless.

But... if we were to rid ourselves of such important facts... Maybe someone who's fun? Someone who's willing to bring Key out of her shell, to give her reason to think of Twisted Wonderland as her home, and to be as spontaneous and fun as she is. Who doesn't listen to rigid rules without question and creates a fun sort of chaos that will make Key laugh.

Someone like... I don't know, Floyd?

(Love me some crackships when I was younger, so I'm bringing that out here hahaha)

Wouldn't it be funny if the endgame romance (not that there will be endgame romance in Caged Birds) was Floyd and Key? How would that work... Key'd? Flokey? Ohhhh, Flokey could work heheheh

But that's hilarity.

Oooooffff, that's a good question! I think you mentioned one of the more popular ones like Azul/Tiana, Alice/Riddle, etc., so I'll go with one that is pretty cracky (???) but could work if written/executed properly.

Don't laugh, hehehe.

But what about Floyd/Moana?

Like, Floyd is all about freedom and independence. He does what he wants to do whenever he feels like it. He's like the ocean in that way. One minute as calm as a sleeping baby and the next, as temperamental as a hurricane.

On the other hand, Moana (whose name means ocean!!!), she also likes independence and freedom, but she still adheres to the rules and restrictions of tradition and what's best for her people. Of course, she does go out of her way to leave her island so she can rescue her people, but again, that's because of tradition--that little bit of rebellion was just a bonus.

So, they're kind of like opposites in a way? Floyd is inhibited, while Moana is more restrictive. Both crave freedom and independence in their own ways and regard consequences quite differently. I suppose if they were ever paired together (romantically or otherwise), Floyd would teach Moana to not put so much emphasis on her people's needs over her own while Moana would teach Floyd about thinking before doing.

Plus, I think it would be fun if Floyd were trying to flirt with her, but the ocean decides to interfere if it thinks Floyd is getting too rowdy (like sending a tidal wave his way and splashing him). Also, can you imagine a "kiss the girl" sort of situation where Moana is on her small boat and Floyd is in his merform and he's leaning up to meet her halfway as she leans down? Peak romance, hehehe. Or Moana swimming with Floyd as both humans or when he's in his merform?

I bet Floyd would also have fun with Maui while Moana would try not to get on Jade's hit list.

Both of the Tweels would definitely be after Hei Hei if only just for the bit and to bother Moana.

Decided to continue with your TWST fic. Listing off my more negative thoughts here. There were some hurdles with this like the sluggish pacing at times (I'm with that one commenter that I think those chapters where you went over everyone's reaction to her in a short time span should've been shoved off into a side series rather than the main one, because that was REALLY hard to get through and made me almost drop the fic) and the fact that you aren't focusing on the main cast as much as I hoped. These are me issues. You can do whatever you want. It's your fic. Those are just my honest thoughts on the matter. What I said before about dropping the story without telling you still stands. I don't like telling other authors why I drop things. I just drop it and move on.

I'm going to answer this before I answer your other questions because I'll forget. I'll admit, it took me a while to come up with a suitable response to this, not a lot of creators, writers and artists especially, don't like criticism or negative comments over their work.

That said, I agree. There is sluggish pacing and I'm keeping that in mind when I have written (currently writing) the newer chapters and arcs. That said, my writing style is pretty much made up of that sluggish pacing. I like to set up the scene and include details that will be later used in future chapters/arcs.

Are some of the scenes and dialogue all necessary? Definitely not. Far from it, actually.

And as for why I'm not focusing on the main cast... it was the prologue arc that has been completed so far. Rest assured, Key will interact more with the main cast during this current and future arcs.

Also, yeah. Feel free to drop Caged Birds whenever you like. No need to remind me of that. I've dropped many fics and didn't bother telling authors of that either.
