I finally did it. Finaly finished ref for the chunky the Arctic Impaler

Did some tweaks here and there. Made him sliiightly bigger but shh Hope there are no errors Just ignore how different he looks on each drawing. that's what happens when you work on a ref months apart but finally it's done.

bonus lore. They change their color around 2 weeks old and in that age they start to learn how to swim until that they stay in the ice nest. 1st week only father hunts the 2nd week mother joins the hunt. Within those 2 weeks they grow very fast then their growth slows down

I kinda accidentally made a new oc. This started as something else but then I got an idea, changed a few things and here we have this draconic seal like creature, related to dragons, blubbery, covered with fur and breath ice. The Arctic Impaler

He's some kind of undiscovered cryptid that got discovered. So obvisously all kinds of people either scientists, poachers etc. want to get his skin so he tries his best to stay as undiscovered as possible. So he tries to avoid humans and/or undirectly discourages them from searching/entering his domain but if he gets spotted then he has no choice but to get rid of the witnesses. who knows maybe he was caught once before and simply doesn't want to live caged again. Or he just knows what humans are capable of, what they do when they find something strange, unique, rare... valuable after all he's the last of his kind...

Here's something about his species. Males wrestle each other to impress females kinda like elephant seals and their vocalization is similar to bear, walrus and seal but unlike the elephant seal they are monogamous but sometimes one male lives with two females. When males mature they leave their family to find females meanwhile females stay with their family until they find the perfect male to start their own family. During mating season they build big ice nest where the female incubate the egg while male hunts for food.

Hello! So I finally made som kind of basic sheet for the species. Now I just hope tumblr doesn't butcher it too much

I wanted to draw more things for this but then it would take me forever to answer so this is it for now

Anyway here are some aditional facts

When males mature they leave their family to find females meanwhile females stay with their family until they find the perfect mate to start their own family. If female happens to lose her mate she may join a pair of another impalers and over time they may become polyamorous. Or the female joins another lone female or she goes back to her biological family. If male loses his mate he either lives solitary or may join other lone males

When males wrestle each other it kinda lokes like elephant seal fight mixed with bear fight. Fights used to be lethal but then it changed. As the part of their "culture" they no longer saw a point in killing eachother and so their "law" now forbids one Impaler killing another.

Their vocalization is similar to bear, walrus and seal but they also make clicking sounds like whales/dolphins
