There was something distinctly unpleasant about the past. It must be the hints of tarnished memories, or the fact that the world moves on and one forgets what the past was like, anyway. Whatever the reasons were, the past was unpleasant, and Xanthe for one, hated reminiscing about old times. Her old times were full of blood and hate, things she had promised to not be anymore. In the turn of a new century, Xanthe had promised to be a different person.
But of course, it didn’t mean she could purge her biology. Who she was on a molecular level couldn’t be changed. So it meant that neither could her dietary restrictions. Sipping on what looked a suspicious smoothie, the vampire put on her shades and observed from her umbrella-ed empire at the world beside her. If there was something she liked, it was that as the centuries went, people became more oblivious to their surroundings. Like they had simply chosen to ignore another world living on the periphery. A world that Xanthe and people like her resided in.
So when her lunch partner arrived, she pulled off the shades and casually eyed her. Arabella had looked as beautiful as ever. Since the first time they had met till today, she would be the first and hopefully the last woman in Xanthe’s life. Not that the former was one for monagamy, not in the least.
“How prompt of you. Right on the clock. I must say, wrist watches make time management so much easier now, do they not?”
