Defeat fills his tone as he stares down at his knees. He should’ve done something. He should’ve been there. Then this would never of happened. He feels like his heart has stopped, the room is stripped of all air and he struggles to fight back. He should’ve taken on the monster by himself. The others didn’t deserve this.
Chocolate orbs fill with tears and he doesn’t care if they fall. His eyes are blurry now, he doesn’t care. What’s the point? He’s lost. He’s been ripped apart and his heart’s been taken. He licks his lips for a moment, his friend’s words do nothing to comfort him.
He knows she’s trying to help, he really does and he appreciates her attempts. It doesn’t help though, he doesn’t feel any better or any less responsible. He feels more, it was his fault, his mess up. He’s the one to blame. Her attempts to convince him otherwise go in one ear and out the other. He doesn’t believe her.
He feels her hand on his cheek and his head is forced to turn and his eyes meet her. He feels broken. Truly defeated as he stares at her. He hears her words but he can’t believe them. It was his fault this happened. He shakes his head, forces his own head out of her grip and he lets his hang. “ It’s my fault, Gwen. I should’ve been there. “
