JUST TRAUMATIZE YOUR FATHER BACK !!!!!!!
Here's a plot bunny for you! Maybe: Galvatron is super powerful and abusive and easily triggered by various things, but is also just a person like anybody else who is capable of both positive and negative emotions and doesn't hate and resent literally everybody... even being capable of respect and sometimes love as well. But what if, unusually for a more heroic character, Bumble was actually not viewing Galvatron as a person and instead as more of a deserved punishment? That Bumble was internally thinking, "I'm such a failure, I don't deserve better, this may as well happen" etc. whereas Galvatron was actually trying to a good partner since Bumble is the right mix of being worthy of respect but not so potentially threatening that it makes Galvatron feel afraid and go berserk? Anyway, that's my reading, have fun! ~arceespinkgun
Yes yes YES - I've always carried a key of Bumble engaging in self-flagellation, so the idea of "I deserve this, because I don't deserve better" is right on the money for my interpretation of this ship too.
Combining this with my read on the accident mentioned in the Apocrypha that resulted in Bumble being rebuilt, I totally think the injuries were from the same attack that killed Rodimus Magnus led by Galvatron and his group of Decepticons. So that partial respect also coming from the fact that Bumble survived where the current Magnus did not, and came out stronger from it, but not so strong that if needed Galvatron could do it all over again...
Can you say more about how TF fans need to accept that some versions of characters are different? Because this is a pet peeve of mine (every time I see people assume it's canon Shockwave in any continuity other than the IDW comics had a face removed I get so annoyed... oddly in my experience it's usually comics fans applying IDW to cartoons not the reverse) ~arceespinkgun
Oh, yeah, 100%. I don't get this the same way I get it with Wolverine (original subject of post), possibly because I interact with the fandoms differently? I'm not posting a ton of analysis about Version A of a character with people responding of analysis of Version B acting like we're talking about the same character, let's just say. (Though... some of the responses when I posted Rodimus Prime's G1 character bio...)
Anyways, I think it's a result of an impulse to take elements of various continuities that you like or find personally interesting without considering why those elements were implemented in the first place or how they fit together and what they mean for the characters, world, and story. This is, obviously, not actually hurting anybody and the worst thing about it is, as you said, it's Really Annoying.
Like, for a very broad example, I've seen people write it so that the Decepticons in G1 have the same (or at least similar) history, motivations, and politics as the Decepticons in IDW, when G1 is just not a setting that has produced functionism and also more important the Decepticons are, if I had to ascribe a political ideology to them, fascists. Like I guess that one is kinda harmful in that it replicates the "these militant rights activists are EVIL and BLOW UP HOSPITALS" thing but honestly I'd rather get to that at the source than approach it in fanon so like... whatever.
And then for more specific examples... God, every time I see G1 fic where Arcee is some ancient warrior or Springer & Prowl give a single solitary fuck about each other...
Anyways. I'm not actually opposed to mixing continuities in the abstract, I think there's a lot of opportunities to do cool and creative stuff there and I've definitely seen people do it in ways I found really interesting. But it definitely works best when done with thought and consideration, which does include actually knowing what things are canon to what continuity, LOL.
(edit @arceespinkgun forgot to tag you 🤦♀️)
You might be interested in a post I made about what happened with the arc in the Marvel comics in which Goldbug/Bumblebee and Blaster became the main characters of the series for a while and how it impacted both of them: https://arceespinkgun.tumblr.com/post/745801229191544832/blaster-and-bumblebeegoldbug There's a lot of other interesting Bumblebee lore I haven't discussed before in that continuity as well, like his contemplating whether or not Primus is a vengeful god who demands sacrifice, and leading a team consisting of himself, Grimlock, and Jazz. ~arceespinkgun
Omg that analysis is absolutely fire, I'm shoving it straight into my brain and keeping a note on everything you mentioned and discussed (especially those panels of Bee wishing he was a human so that someone would need him, that's going straight into my Accelerate inspo folder). I haven't met much of Blaster yet, but I was super curious about people mentioning his relationship with Bee but now I'm hooked on it.
Once more considering getting over my allergies to comics because this continuity has my attention more than the IDW ones do.
Also. Obsessed with Bee contemplating whether or not Primus is a vengeful god, I absolutely need to hear more about this 👀
I just remember I wanted to say that I feel like something that was rarely mentioned (I think? I've never seen it discussed) re: TFA is that in addition to Optimus's choice to see Elita alive and then leave and choose to never go back for a body, AND his judgment of her for defecting, earlier in the flashback we also saw Sentinel telling the two of them to run away... so Optimus not only intentionally chose to leave her to die, he also overrode Sentinel's choice by choosing to save him but leave Elita as well. I think all of these details led to my finding the episodes about this past TFA's most interesting (I also love how Optimus chose not to tell Sentinel about Blackarachnia! Wow!)... but I wonder sometimes if the writers really understood all this. They did have Optimus take the punishment as the senior cadet, but if the writers had thought of all this through, would they really have had Blackarachnia's story go where it did, or where it planned to go? And I didn't feel like Sentinel's thoughts of these actions were really showcased either despite his constant j judginess toward Optimus. IDK I just felt like talking about this stuff since it's so interesting ~arceespinkgun
Totally agreed! The entire situation between Optimus, Sentinel, and Elita-1's past is such a fascinating turn of events because they ALL played a hand in how everything fell apart. Optimus ignoring Sentinel's wants in the whole situation especially so, because this wasn't a situation where he had to pick or choose who needed saving most, the answer was blatantly clear that Elita was immediate danger and still he decided to save Sentinel instead. I really frown when I see people say that it's entirely Elita and Sentinel's fault as though Optimus did no wrong because he did. He really truly did. And that's what makes this new past for these three so interesting!
I definitely don't think the writers understood the depth of what they set up, or at least, they considered some aspects but not others. Like I do appreciate that Optimus felt culpable enough to take the punishment for what happened, but it never feels like he understands what he did wrong. Like at the end of Predacons Rising, we get that partial reconciliation between Sentinel and Optimus where they apologize to one another (speaking of, oh my god why does Optimus sound like he's pulling out his teeth for admitting that he forced Sentinel to leave her behind 💀) I thought Sentinel's writing in that episode was so topnotch, I got chills when he told Blackarachnia she should have died instead of becoming a techno-organic. I enjoy that Optimus is flawed, but the narrative of the show doesn't treat him as such so it falls flat 😭
Plus, with their wanting to have Blackarachnia become the big bad of the show in S4, it feels very... weird? Progression wise? I know it's easy to shake our hands up at Big Hasbro as fans of TF, but I understand why before they cancelled the show why they kept having them go back to the drawing board for S4. Blackarachnia deserved a better character arc till the end of time.
Teehee
This made me so incredibly flustered I blacked out and now I need to redraw this immediately with my Miis 😳
Oops, I was mistaken in my reply, it was the leaked pitch bible that described Mo as being super mature for her age, not the guidebook which is largely narrated by her! Here are the links to both:

WAITTTTT THIS IS SO MUCH COOLER THAN IF IT WAS JUST THE FANGUIDE
Bless up for the links!! Gonna be reading these with GREAT interest now 👀
Kind of a weird request but could you put the link to your awesome Mo and Terratronus one-shot on here? I really want to reblog it because I swear Tumblr is totally devoid of any fanwork relating to Terratronus! XD ~arceespinkgun
Not a weird request at all, I can totally do that! I sorta gave up on cross-posting because I psyched myself out that I was being majorly annoying to everyone LOL
I'll use the same format that I was using originally to post it over here!
