What-if question alert! :D Your characters (pick any or all of them~) are suddenly informed that they only have a month left to live. How do they react? What do they do with the time they have left?
This was such a gold mine of delicious angst it took me way too long trying to think of scenarios worthy of it. ….Which I’m not sure I did BUT HERE GOES ANYWAY
Ordhan (both the Denerim knight and the Republic soldier) would feel a sense of bitter relief. The news would resolve that conflicted sense of justice in him that he should die, but he’d want a death that did some good. He’d probably grow even more reckless than his already worrisome usual, volunteering for suicide missions for the Republic or going on forays against sightings of Darkspawn. He’d keep it secret until the last minute; the knight would have next to no one to mourn him, so he’d find it irrelvent, while the Republic soldier doesn’t want Declan to change the way he treats him—or, worse, leave.
Dathen (both smuggler and Forsaken) would start with a miserable, emotional reaction, denial and despair and anger hitting him all at once and rolling over each other. The Forsaken would mostly decry the unfairness of it all, that he’d already suffered one death and what had he done to deserve a second? The smuggler would lament that he’d die so young; that it’s not fair that he’d die before he had the chance to fully experience life. But after an initial bout of temperamental lashing out at everyone around him, both would get despondent and even more clingy than usual. And very sensitive to whether he felt his friends were upset enough over it all. If not, he’d be very quick to remind them that he doesn’t have much time left and are they sure that they have to go on that mission or spend time with someone else?
Agent Matt’hew would have a lot of conflicting feelings about it. Even though he’s fully expected a short life and a violent death, he’s also a survivor—and learning that he’s lost that battle and there’s no way to outsmart his own fate would hit him hard. But if he’s good at anything it’s masking his emotions, and he’d probably manage to paste on a smile and keep it quiet for quite a while. He’d confide in Vector first, most likely, and Serini not long after that, but wait much longer for Serrice.
Archad would grumble that it better be the damn last time and go find someone to promise to burn his bones so that no more #*&$($ necromancers can bring him back this time.
