Clint’s eyes snap open and he sucks in a ragged lungful of air that ends in a sputtering, hacking cough. His mouth tastes acrid and his ears are ringing. He can just make out the crackle of flames, and every muscle in his body tightens with tension as his senses start to fill him in on what happened to knock him.He can still feel the repercussions of the detonation taking their tolls on his body as he forces himself to get to his feet, and his eyes narrow. “Katie Kate." She’d been right beside him when the bomb had gone off, and they’d been far enough outside the blast radius that she should’ve escaped unharmed, but when a quick scan to his left and right doesn’t produce any sign of her, he starts to worry."Katie!"There’s debris littering the street, ranging from chunks of buildings to overturned cars, and Clint scans the area again, eyes sweeping over the debris in a more thorough manner. His heart nearly seizes up in his chest when he spots a purple-booted foot amid a pile of rubble, and he races over, terror already gripping his insides. He skids to a halt beside her unconscious form, and he exhales a relieved breath when he sees the steady rise and fall of her chest. He kneels beside her, already prying rubble off her pinned leg. A soft groan alerts him to the fact that she’s starting to regain consciousness, and he flashes a lopsided grin."Hey, Sleeping Beauty, it’s about time you woke up." The relief in his voice is palpable as he examines her leg for any signs of swelling or bruising that could indicate it’s broken. Kate starts to sit up, exhaling a pained groan with the effort, and he places a firm hand on the center of her chest, pushing her back down to the ground. He frowns, shaking his head. “Stay down, Katie Kate."A sound that might be a tiny whimper escapes her, and Clint ignores it as she clears her throat and tries again. “Think my leg’s broken."He nods, already thumbing the activation button for the homing beacon concealed in his bow. “Yeah, I figured." He draws an arrow from his quiver, nocking it into place against his bow and draws, ready to defend her from any attackers. “Back-up’s on the way. Don’t worry, Hawkeye, I’ve got this."
