Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Fans Are Raising Money for COVID-19 Relief in Honor of Archie's Birthday
The Twitter fundraiser, deemed #ArchieDay, has raised more than $40,000 thus far.

Longtime fans of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have initiated a new fundraising effort on Twitter dubbed #ArchieDay in honor of the Sussexes' son's first birthday this year.
The massive social media fundraiser was created to raise money for charities that are both dear to the Sussexes and also helping combat the coronavirus crisis.
#ArchieDay has currently raised more than $40,000 for COVID-19 relief efforts in honor of the one-year-old.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's biggest fans are celebrating the first birthday of their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, in traditional Sussex fashion: by giving back
Dubbed #ArchieDay, the digital fundraising effort created in honor of the couple's one-year-old debuted on Twitter last month, thanks to university student Dani Trin, who spearheaded the effort with the help of a tight-knit Twitter community of longtime Sussex fans.
Through the power of social media, Sussex fans encouraged one another to donate to specific causes both dear to Harry and Meghan and that were also currently making efforts to help those affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The massive project was inspired by the #GlobalSussexBabyShower from last year, which Trin also took part in.
"#ArchieDay is [another effort], but this time it fell to me to organize it. I wanted to organize the fundraiser for Archie's first birthday, so I got a group of people from Twitter on a group chat and we made it happen," Trin tells BAZAAR.com. "We never had a specific amount we hoped to hit. Ultimately, we hoped to simply help the charities and raise awareness for the projects people are conducting to help children through this pandemic.
"A lot of people felt protective of Meghan when presented with the negative narrative the British newspapers were trying to create surrounding her. And [Sussex supporters] all just ended up in this community online, more specifically Twitter, where we mostly talk about the unfairness of it all and try to fight against it the best we can," continues Trin. "We always try to think back to this very central question in our ethos, What would Meghan do? We thought a great way to respond to all the negativity would be donating to charities close to the duke and duchess's heart. We created our first charity fundraiser event then, called #GlobalSussexBabyShower, and we were actually so surprised by how good it went. And we have continued to do these kinds of fundraisers ever since."
Since the launch of #ArchieDay, more than $40,000 have been raised for charities such as the South African–based organization Nourish, the Boys and Girls Club of Canada, Children's Aid in the States, as well as WellChild, one of Harry's patronages. Trin is expecting more donations to flow in on Archie's official birthday, May 6.

Marie Claire changed the headline from royal fans to Meghan and Harry fans after many Sussex fans who contributed to the Archieday fundraiser told them they were not royal fans but Harry and Meghan fans.
