As always, he hadn't been fast enough.
He broke her stupid, fucking bow but he forgot how crafty she was, she'd been gone for so long how could he possibly remember how clever and resourceful she was infamous for being. When the dagger sprung into her hand, he only had a moment to blink in confusion before it found itself inside him.
And as the blood blossomed against the yellow of his suit, blooming red and dripping slowly like a soft rain, he considered many things-- always thinking, mind always racing--
He thought about the time they met, the embarrassment and irritation that bore; he thought about the times they fought, flinging insults to the wind as if they meant nothing; he thought about the closeness that eventually came, and the trust that soon followed mutually between them; and then finally, he thought of her departure, the broken bonds, the rage that grew and grew with each passing day afterwards.
He collapsed to the ground in a heap, doubled over and hitched his breath at the sight of the dagger still embedded deep, why so deep, into his abdomen.
He could hardly feel the pain, it felt more like a dull sting, like getting a needle shoved in him more than an eight inch knife, but maybe that was the adrenaline, or maybe the disbelief, and of course betrayal still ringing clear as as ever, echoing the day she she left for good.
He'd never expected her to go this far. She's crossed many, many lines but this-- god she must have punctured his kidney? maybe his spleen-- this was on a whole different level.
He opened his mouth, to speak because he was always speaking, always saying words regardless of how much they were worth, but instead, blood sputtered out; red freckling the ground underneath him and suddenly, his vision wasn't so clear anymore.
Gotta go--- Gotta go now---
But he couldn't move, yet it wasn't due to the injury.
Fear.
He was afraid of her.
And that was enough to keep him rooted in place, mouth open and dribbling with blood and eyes blown open wide.
How could she?
