Slogging on slowly through the enveloping blanket of mist I arrived at the next city on the crest of a hill. The rod widened and transformed into a battered wall. On either side the hill had been cut away, falling off into a cliff the base of which was shrouded from sight. A false arch lead to a blind courtyard, the wall had no gateway upon which to enter; a single staircase marked by a single light post lead downwards.
