Architectural documentation helps in better understanding of any structure and the spaces involved with it. While repairing and preserving any monument; the documentation process helps to understand the design parameters which shaped the structure within that particular context.
Khangsar literally means “a new home” in Tibetan and is located in the Lauhal Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. The two hundred years old palace lies at an altitude of 11,500 feet above the sea level.
Since its inception this palace has served as a cultural center for the people in Lahaul. It has a beautiful prayer hall towards the North east corner on the fourth floor and is still being used by the locals. The main cultural events that take place within the palace are the winter and summer Chozdpa festival. . Winter Trildapa Chozdpa happens in March and involves masked dance of Pandavas and the summer Fu Chozdpa happens in August and portrays the mythical snow lion and its ritualistic dance.
