On a serious note...
I know there’s this tendency to talk about how little architecture students sleep, it’s kind of a running gag at this point. And yeah, there will be times that we don’t get as much sleep as we should because of projects/homework/life/etc.
But if you’re averaging less than 30 hours a week on sleep, that is not healthy. Yes, sometimes professors ask more of us than is really feasible within the limited hours of the day, but your sleep habits should not be consistently taking the hit for this - there is a difference between occupational hazards, and unhealthy habits. When you don’t get enough sleep, your work and your health (both mental and physical) WILL suffer.
I didn’t realize until today how much one of my best friends was dealing with surrounding this, and I likely wouldn’t have if they hadn’t said something directly. They joke about being sleep deprived and all that, and I was somewhat concerned, but there’s such a culture in architecture school about this that I didn’t realize how bad it was. Please take care of yourselves, guys, and watch out for each other. If that means talking to a friend, or even talking to a professional (because sometimes your friends are not capable of providing the sort of help/support you need, because they aren’t professionals), then so be it, but don’t feel like you have to deal with it alone. If something feels wrong, it probably is, and it’s better to get it out in the open and address it before it gets too serious.
